Diy predator platform

I went by the climbing store after work and picked up some 5mm accessory cord rated for like 1277 or something like that. 50 feet weighs 8 ozs. Cost of it plus 10 feet of 6 mm cord was $23.

Any updates on this platform? How is it preforming?

I could never get the top teeth to stay engaged against the tree, no matter what i tried. I moved the bolt up and down the post to no avail. The only way it would stay tight is with a ratchet. I did not want to use a ratchet so i made a new post, with teeth at top and bottom, that the platform attaches to the middle of. I welded taps onto the outside of the platform to hook the strap on so i can cam the platform down. I took a cam buckle strap and sewed loops in the end to eliminate the metal hooks. I am very happy with how it performs now.

I hunted most of the season on a traditional treestand with the seat removed and set as a permanent set. I took 2 does and a spike from the saddle using that setup. I used my diy platform for hang and hunt setups. This guy had showed up on camera the beginning of december. I waited for him to get consistent in the daylight and then waited for a good wind. At the end of december, everything lined up so i hung a set and killed him in the first 2 hours that i hunted that property all year.

LeanMachine, what size square tube is your post? I used 1.5" .065 and It crumpled when I jumped on it. I even welded in a gusset.

1". In this application 1.5" will be weaker with force applied to the center of post, i think.

Also, pic looks like you are applying force to the very edge. If you have to do that due to your design, i would weld a full cap over the end to give it more support.
