Do as I Say Not as I do

Hunting from a climber the past 10 years I've adjusted the cables mid climb more than I care to admit
been there done that. One time I got the bright idea to sit in the seat of my summit climber and try to adjust the platform cable. That did not go so well, as I spent a good 5 minutes trying to fish my platform back up the tree in order to reconnect it. Luckily i keep my platform tethered to the top section so it only fell a few feet. Never tried to adjust the platform while in the tree after that incident, but I do adjust the top section when needed.

I'd use the stabilizer straps from third hand archery to keep the platform in place while I made adjustments, still wouldn't recommend it

What are some things you do or used to do that may not have been the smartest?

Using gaffs climbing in and out of loc ons without a linemans belt, just holding on to the tree. Did this for years without mishaps. STUPID

This is why I hate this forum.
Too many experts using terms that I've never heard of. 1st, It was some gizmo called a "linemans" or some such thing. Now its a "safety harness"?? Is this some new fangled dee vice thats just a gimmick to pry dollars away from suckers? You guys will fall (no pun intended) for anything.

Not apologizing for it, but I will continue to use my Xstand and Summitsclimbers without any harness and still climb up presets without using any attachments until I connect my tether. Oh yeah, I one stick without any rope or connection to climb...

Actually, I do a lot of stuff that I shouldn't do. I just dont talk about a lot of it because I don't want to give anyone else any ideas.

Keep your finger away from the blade of the Corona saw while cutting branches. Dang, did it again this morning. Just a stupid sharp little manual saw. :D

I may or may not have had a similiar experience with a different but comparable saw...

Heres another guy that just needs to rub some dirt in it.
But seriously, glad you didn't hit a knuckle and cut some tendons.

Hang climbing ladders with one leg wrapped around one of steps and getting the strap connected. THen hanging the lock on by wrapping both legs around a step holding the stand in my lap while trying my best to grab the strap that is hung on the bark or a limb I didnt see in the back. No tether or LB or harness by myself....

Standing 20' ladder stands up by myself, then having to get it leaning just right so I can climb to the top and put my straps on with one hand while keeping pressure on it with the other. Again no harness or LB. DUmb,

Been there, done that!!!!! But what I dont get is how did we ever think it was smart or safe

Started climbing with a Baker when I was 7. No such thing as a safety harness for hunting back then but Mom did make us some sweet chest pads for climbing early season or when you needed to climb a hackberry. Switched to a lock on lem and screw in steps and normally used my left leg as the linemans when I got to stand height so I had both hands free to hang the stand. Almost everyone I hunt or used to hunt with has fallen. I have had a few real close calls.
My worst fall of all things was while taking down a 30 ft ladder stand. I wish. Its embarassing to say but it was only a cheap 12 foot ladder stand and I rode the bark hard coming down. Walked like I had been riding a horse cross country for a week...had scratches and bruises from my shins thighs belly arms to my chest. Should have left the blame thing in the woods.

If you cut some tendons just get out a needle and thread and stitch the tendon ends together. Then, rub some dirt in it. :D
I'm rubbing some coconut oil in it. It seems to work better than dirt.

I didn't post in this thread earlier because I couldn't think of what I would do that I would tell somebody different. Today, it hit me. The saw blade that is. :D
