I will go out on a limb and say wear your leg straps. I do tree work and am also SPRAT certified. Because of this, I get to socialize and train with a wide variety of industry techs during training.

Hunting saddles are not officially climbing rated. You should be taking every measure possible to mitigate any risk aloft. Doesn't matter if the leg straps aren't technically weight rated, wouldn't you at least want the best chance of keeping your butt in the load bearing section ? The ASTM standard for saddles is still in development. So some companies don't even do independent testing yet.

thanks...another thing people don't think of is if the saddle waist belt goes under your arms, you aren't just hanging like a duckling kicking its legs until the DNR shows up....that waist belt could be at that time constricting your rib cage and preventing you from breathing at all or at least effectively/comfortably....after a few hours your rotator cuffs would probably be trash also, but that's a lesser thing

Very very true. And I'd say hanging by your arm pits is a best case scenario. Likely would occur in a less dynamic type of fall.

In a true dynamic event, I'd put money on the hunter being shot out to the ground

Not sure about any data. But every full body safety harness tested to TMA standards has load bearing leg straps. And every rock climbing harness I have seen has leg straps.
I had a stick unattach from the tree. A vertical fall. Unbelievable how quick it happened. Good thing I was only two steps off the ground. I use load bearing leg straps and once I am on my first stick I am climbing with my linesman and tether attached.View attachment 93388
More évidence that sticks are the most dangerouse thing in saddle hunting

You can Block someone?
Now you tell me!!! LOL.
My dudes geo and raisins.i love both of your guyses consistancy across many threads.but when it comes to blocking people ,and not playing devils advocate because i get blocked à lot.but let me break it down.strong minds speak about ideas.this idea red squirl had is a forum of nothing but ideas.even if ideas are misguided, bad,or just plain wrong.aint nobody here à simplton.redsquirl put all the strongest minds in and out of the entire hunting indestry, not just saddle hunting industry,,,all in one chat room.....question is what will he do with all that knawledge.only dude with the means to renivate the entire hunting endistry into an opus of ultraligjt gear that more than just rivals but makes invious the ultra light backpacking comunity. remember we mine preshious gems out of trecherous terain.you may learn something dope next year from the same idiot.

So an arborist saddle doesn't need leg straps ? They are positioning devices too.
I agree. Your post later elaborates on this better than I can. Would you wear a hunting saddle to work? Even if it had leg straps?
I would never use a hunting harness for work.
I imagine a lot of that has to do with insurance?
I would say hunting and work systems are similar. But They are clearly not the same.

And i woud not wear work gear to hunt.better be soft ,silent ,small ,and stealth, some ninja shnilt made to hunt not work.no arborist or rock climbing gear.no toolbags with métal buckles...i mean just bring the hammer and nails ....call it à run n gun climbing system.some 2x4rs for guys with big feet...just build a tree fort....call it à hunting blind.just need a prybar to take it back apart when you leave...put it in the 3500000 kifaru back pack ....with frame
