Does size really matter…?

Small for weight saving and compactness. I never saw the need for anything bigger and I have big feet at size 13.

Do you run large platforms or small platforms and what do you like and why?

really small platforms make it hard/impossible to stand fully on the platform and also turn on the platform for a weak side shot

i like the smallest platform that allows this, which for most people is something around the size of an original tethrd predator

i don't go larger than that minimum because i like things to be somewhat light and compact

Im like many others. I use the predator for weight and compactness. I also wear a 13 boot. I’ll stay with it

I like a large platform. Originally purchased the predator xl because of my large feet (15 eeee). Tried a friend's predator and I think it was a lone wolf platform. Bottom line, the ability to have your boots flat and supported while leaning for long periods feels better on the old dogs.:sunglasses:

Same. I'm using a hybrid setup this year because I'm in the camp of 'I want it all'. I tried ROS and smaller platform but I rather carry the extra few pounds to be able to stand when I want to.

Depends on how long I’m gonna be up in the tree. I love my ROS and they are my go to for all short sits however if I’m spending 6 hours or more in a tree I know I’ll be wanting to stand for a few and adjust it just want more foot space so in those sits, I like having a platform and since I wear a 13 or 14 boot depending on the brand, I like a decent sized platform. Yea ya really all subjective

I use a Ridge Runner with two steps. I'm a bigger guy and like the comfort of the ridge runner, and the steps allow for more control moving around the tree and also as foot rests to sit straddling the tree sometimes.

I tried just a ROS, and while it's manageable and I can see using it for a short sit, for longer sits I like being able to fully stand up without the pressure of the steps digging into my arches. The platform also makes adjusting my bridge and tether easier to do too.

The things I look for when buying hunting gear…
Dependability, will it perform when I need it the most. Is it tough, will it last, simple, the less moving **** the better, made in the USA when possible, compact, I carry this stuff more than I stand on it, weight, lighter is better unless it interferes with any of the aforementioned. I promise anyone reading this, if your ever so fortunate to be staring down the buck of a lifetime while trying to perform ninja moves on a platform the size of a sardine can because weight was your top priority going into that season… well none of those ounces will matter if you blow that chance because you were focused on foot placement and not making that kill shot, I understand the super small platform idea, I have spent thousands on ultralight gear, and maybe if I started off my career with a micro platform back in the day 30 years ago I would feel different, but as it stands I have never had a problem closing the deal on whatever I was trying to kill while elevated and have little desire to change, learning weak side ninja moves isn’t for me. All that being said I like a big platform like the Ambush, Mission, Tethrd doesn’t make a product I will ever own again.. practice is the secret no matter what a person chooses, good luck this season to all!!

One thing about larger platforms that I do not see talked about very much is how well they replace a backpack. On my ambush I bungee strap 4 beast sticks to it. I added lashing straps to it as well for bibs and a jacket. I use a a dump pouch with a sling for everything else I need. I have another thread asking about trying to do this with a predator platform. Not many replies because I believe the predator may be too small and so most will run a pack with it.
