Does thermacell actually do anything?

I can’t imagine hunting without one. Had a bug tamer suit back in the day and these Florida skeeters still wore me out.

As said, not good if moving fast, if I’m walking slow it still keeps them down to a bearable level. High winds keep the skeeters down when the thermocell isn’t working. But make sure you have it cranked back up about 10 minutes ahead of the evening wind slack cause they’ll be swarming you again and it takes a few minutes to get cooking properly.

I’ve never been busted that I’d attribute to the thermacell.

I’ve also used a bug top almost every single time I’ve hunted for walking in, setting up, if wind is a little too much , & for walking out

Wish they would come up with a lighter color scheme that isn’t a dark blob at distance

I've found if I'm walking and stopping to check stuff for a short period then walking to the next, I don't see any reduction in the number of blood suckers. But it definitely works if I'm in the tree or in one spot for a while. We use ours on the patio sometimes.

Never go on a hunt during the early season without it. Unbearable without one.

I swear by thermacell. I think i repressed memories of what it was like before I had one. I can't remember a time I didn't bring it into the woods

Anyone else get a headache? Common?
I get headaches from a several kinds of bug repellents. Deet on my skin burns like fire. Other kinds are ok but don't work as well.

I'll take some ibuprofen and deal with the thermocell over dealing with vampire spawn tho.

My wife's inability to handle deet is the only reason I still have a thermacell. The stuff melts her like chocolate in a hot car.

When I was a kid going camping and other outdoor actives we had to wear long pants tucked into long socks, tucked in shirt, and skin so soft lotion...it smelled strong but if u just need something for around the house in the yard it was what my whole family used before they had thermacell and such....maybe an alternative for sensitive skin

I'm sure its been asked a thousand times before, but I just almost died of blood loss pulling cards from my trail cams. Who's used thermacell, and how much of difference does it really make?

@MNpublic thanks for starting the thread. This is why I like SH. Good stuff. Ordered my kit, hanger, and spare cartridges / butane last night. Probably only use It the first 2 weeks of expanded here in Maine, but why not. Excited to try it.
