Down side of 1 stick climbing

Climbing down when one sticking is not fun I’ve done it 1/2dz times for various reasons but it can be done if you go slow

I've tried several climbing methods and one stick wasn't much harder than any of the others but I love having an 11 pound pack with all my gear and also rappelling is the way to go I always hated climbing down sticks with aiders in the dark

Why Razorback? Why on earth have you done that? I’d love to hear some of those various reasons. Just poking fun….But I bet you got a good story or two. I have gon through the thought process of having to do it, but have not, yet. After my first rappel it was a done deal!

Well I forgot my rappel rope couple times and have dropped my rappel rope once and forgotten my rappel device I know I can climb with my rappel rope but I perfer my tether for that and will use my rappel rope just for that purpose to rappel. Now I make a mental check list before I leave house and at the tree because climbing down from 35 plus feet does suck but it can be done as long as you don’t panic but like I said before you must trust your gear and your self. LOL

Which is worse? Dropping or forgetting your rappel rope? Or climb of shame when you can't get your rope back out?????

I tried it but the fiddle factor was high. The few times I did try were not fun and I lost motivation. I went back to WE stepps and like them. I found it easier to go up and back down in case you have to get out of the tree for any reason. I got bit by the hype cause some people make it look super easy. Im glad I tried it but its just not for me.

I keep all my rappel stuff on my saddle in a roll up ( https://tethrdnation.com/product/roll-up/ ) and that way I have to forget my saddle to forget my rappel gear. I know eventually I will rappel down without attaching my pull down rope however, this year I have avoided that annoyance. The reason I one stick is because I did not enjoy climbing down in the dark with a removable multi-step aider. Too much searching for the loop/step below where I could not see it. I bought all the stuff and practiced last off season and never thought about going back to multi sticks this season. My only down side was when I climbed a large tree that I could not reach around and had a hard time getting the one stick rope around the tree.

That's ten steps up any tree. and a ring of steps.branches, ruff bark ,2 trunks ,crooked trees .don't matter.1 system for every tree.1 system up and down.no clanging stick no ropes or metal decenders.simple .7 to 10 minutes to set.set three steps climb repeat.nothing to learn , practice, adjust or get just right in the freezing rain and dark.its soft like V J J

How much weight and space are you saving by replacing 2 sticks with aider and repelling gear the stick is still the same size.and is metal. More metal more chances of clanging

i dont think im smart i dont think others are dumb.i just dont have room for sticks metal or not.i already get made fun of for having more gear than anny other blacktail hunter.they think all my stuff is stupid.dad already shakes his head at me. imagin being seen with a stick that dont shoot.especialy when i come home with just a tag

Man, I have done both and they both SUUUCK. I was most annoyed though at getting my rope stuck in the crotch of a big limb. Climb of Shame :sleepy: Now I try to move it below any limbs first if possible and I have since looked into SRT to get right back up quickly if this happens again.
