Figure of 8 progress capture???

I'm almost to the point where I'm going to use my C-IV for SRT with the Madrock and using Teufelberger and an 8 for my sticks/2TC rappel line.

Having a stiff rope is great for climbing SRT. However, I also keep my rappel line in a saddle bag since I rappel virtually every time. Swapping the C-IV/Madrock for the other and an 8 would shave close to 1.5# and would pack smaller on the saddle. Then, the SRT C-IV, Madrock and ascender setup would go into it's own pouch carried in a pack.

That's due to the design of the Grivel! I know this because I have one.
Get yerself a normal Figure 8.
I'll get you a picture of where I keep my Grivel...
So, the Grivel does not work as well. That is what I ordered. which one do you have?

It works fine. It's just 'different'.
It's kinda square, depending on where you let the rope feed in it gives various levels of friction, so it takes It's own way to 'run it'...
I didn't really care for it myself but some guys might like it.

I found that I like 'normal' round 8s.

I have a couple Black Diamond super 8s and a couple other ones I can't think of their names off hand.
The BDs are my favorite. I pair them up with PETZL Am'd carabiners. Great match!

That combo is really neat because the 8 spins around and fits inside the biner. It makes them the size of ONE ITEM in your pouch! And the PETZLs have a red ring on them that lets you know your gate isn't locked.
I'm at work now but when I get home I'll get yins guys a picture.

^^^ Good question!
Check out the places where it isn't taped. That's where the rope the runs through/around...

So best practice would be to hook everything up how it would be when I'm hanging and tape up anything the rope doesn't cover. Makes me feel dumb for not thinking of that simple solution. Thanks.

I hockey tape my carabiners using 1" tape paying particular attention to wherever there's metal on metal contact. Like @phatkaw's pictures (just figured out what your username says), I'll either wrap 360 degrees or just the outer edge depending on how it's used. I have some stealthstrips coming that I'll be using on my ascenders and Madrock.

Got the Black Diamond today, did a quick climb/rappel.
Totally different experience with the Black Diamond device than the Grivel. Much more smooth.
