I have been playing around with various free versions of software also. I also downloaded Davinci Resolve but the graphics card in my laptop wasn't compatible, so I downloaded and used Lightworks to put together the Lake Anna video I posted a while ago. I liked the software but, didn't realize until I went to export my first video that I could only export in 720p with the free version. This leg d me to trying Shotcut. It is really basic and isn't nearly as powerful as some of the others but, it is really simple to use. It also requires less computer resources to run so was much faster on my laptop. For what you are wanting to do, it might be something you want to check out.
Awesome thanks, I'll check it out! Thanks
