First impression of climbing with LW Hand Climber

Sorry I worded it weird. I agree with the steps you listed above to stay attached to the tree at all times.

For getting back on the platform.
Do any of you use an aider attached to the bottom of the platform to step up back on to the hand climber?

I use my OCB strap as an aider

That’s the ticket right there, exactly what I was envisioning.

Also wondering if you attach the strap from the outside of the platform or if you strap it where the platform meets the tree.

Seems like if the strap was keeping tension on the outside edge it would have more leverage and keep it more solid for side pressure.

OK apologize in advance if I missed this somewhere along the way. As I’ve been told the only dumb question is the one I ask. The net you have zip tied to your HC, are you using it as a pack with shoulder straps? I find myself carrying way too much stuff would be sweet to ditch my pack I use to haul my climber around.

So I just went out and tested mine finally.

I tried it like you show above with the strap attached at the base of the tree. To me this didn’t take enough side pressure to make it worth losing the ability to rotate around the tree if needed. (White circle)

I found that if you move the strap attachment points further from the tree on the platform, the downward tension keeps better leverage and it is rock solid (red circle).

I still need to get an OCB buckle, but plan to use that as an aider as you showed above and attach it as the red line in the picture.

I'm waiting on mine to get here,I want to try it out.I had a older style lone wolf with a v bar that I sold a few years ago.Does it seem like the hand climber is going to work out well for what we use it for?

I like that I will try it on the “red setting” !!
I am still a new at this so it think it will make me feel safer. But think with time and practice I may not fix the platform to the tree. So I can walk it round the tree.
