I have flex on order, moving from mantis. Do you use an additional back support strap with flex? Appears it may not be required given the larger coverage area of flex vs mantis?
Thanks!

I used it with the flex about 25% of the time. In all reality, you don't need it with the flex as it supports my lower back very well.

I love a Backband the space/weight penalty far outweighs the comfort. I like the original AH band better than the one that comes w/ the flex & I don’t always wear mine low, just depends. I feel like if the waistband of the flex is high enough to double as a back band then my saddle is way high. Everyone has a different comfort level.

First of all ...Congrats on the order!
I keep my back and rolled up in my left dump pouch under my lineman’s belt in case I decide to use it. I can’t count on more than one hand the times I have, but each person will find the comfort different!
Get em buddy!

I use one with my Flex. When I open the pleat, I pull the extra material down around my legs to sit more comfortably. I keep the waist belt in the same spot, so the extra fabric doesn't help with back support.

I highly suggest the tethrd one. The newer one that attaches at the carabiner over the aerohunter one. It packs down much smaller, easier and compact. I was not a big fan of the clips on the one I ordered with my flex.

The back band may not be a necessity but it definitely introduces another level of comfort which is always welcome.

Not a big fan of clips either. I modified my AH back strap with a piece of nylon webbing to make it like the Tethrd strap.

Last year I found that anytime I was going to be in the tree for longer than about 2 hours the backband made for a more comfortable set. It kinda of feels like you can recline a little and gives you more options to distribute weight. I think that on a "weight vs benefit" scale, its worth carrying the backband with you.
