@LMRFish if Bongo is offering to help you out I would take him up on that offer. That is one good dude right there. If you can make it you should also considering making the trip to Maryland for SikaPalooza. Donnieballgame is putting this hunt together and there will be plenty of Saddle equipment and different climbing methods I'm sure. I went to saddlepalooza last year it is definitely an awesome experience to be around that many different saddle hunters and that much equipment. You can learn in one weekend what it will take months on this site.

Speaking of girl saddlehunters and Saddlepalooza what happened to Jess. Never saw her on here or heard anything since Saddlepalooza she was awesome.

Welcome to the forum! I'm new as well, but I have already seen how awesome these folks are. I agree that climbing sticks are easy. It's essentially a vertical ladder. If you can hike a mile and a half into the woods, you can climb a set of sticks with no problems.

@bongo it’s so sweet that you’re still worried about me. I’m around, reading and learning a ton. I made a knaider and I’m waiting on my mantis.
I’m really hoping to make it down to Sikapolooza and learn a ton more.

Jess great to hear from you. Sorry didn’t know your Saddlehunter name. The site is getting way more than I can keep up with. Wish I could of been more help at Saddlepalooza but had my hands full. If you get down my way your always welcome. If you want to hunt the rut in Va Pm me I’ll be there in Nov.
A knaider isn’t that one of those weird aiders that I’ve got two of and you were trying to show me how they worked. I haven’t even pulled them out and looked at them since we were playing with them up there. Glad to hear your still kicking butt. Send me a picture of your knaider and I’ll make a couple.

Welcome! Always happy to have more saddle hunters! I recommend if you haven't already, checking out the new saddle hunter section, specifically the glossary and Noobie advice/info, it's a good place to start.

@bongo thanks for the invite.

The knaider was invented by @Peterk1234. It makes getting extra spacing with the wild edge steps a breeze. If you have those steps, I really recommend making and using one.
If saddlepolooza happens again this year, I’ll be there. Hopefully we can hang out more.

Saddle hunters are the best! I felt right at home with all of you, such a smart and friendly group.

There have been a few females that have reached out about saddle hunting. I think it's so awesome to see more ladies getting in on hunting. Woohoo!

You were great company and you fit right in with the group. If there’s any way to make it to Saddlepalooza next year I will be there.
Sikapalooza sounds like a great time but I have to work.
Hope you get a Monster Buck this year you deserve it.

Welcome, I’m down in N Ft Myers and hunt public land only. I’ve got a couple sitdrags laying around you can use if so inclined. I’m in Israel but will be home on the 1st or 2nd. If you want me to send you one PM me your address. I use to sell clams in Palm Bay.
You can also use your Climber bottom as a climbing method and platform to practice with. No upper body strength needed only legs. To start with a Sitdrag I would recommend a rock climbing harness which I know very little about but many on here do.
YouTube climbing without sticks.
Holly cow just saw your avatar and you flyfish I live 20 miles from Boca Grande Pass and was a guide in Pine Island Sound flyfishing 20 years ago. Do you tie flies.
Check out ( Thread) First Impression of Climbing with LW Hand Climber.

I do fly fish! I've a got a client with a few of my paintings in Boca Grande (tarpon paintings). I do tie my own flies, though I find my time to do so ever decreasing the more I get into hunting. Actually started tying flies when I was about 10 years old but didn't pick up a fly rod until I was in college. I've never gotten to do much fishing on the west coast. Do you still guide at all? Thought I was blessed to find one thing I loved with the fly fishing, then I decided to get serious about hunting (though not very successfully - yet) and bring on the identity crisis. I think I love being out in the woods as much as being on the water. Kind of gave myself the crash course last season at Bull Creek - learned a lot. Decided I wanted to hunt bow season this year, while the deer act more like deer. Got my bow, have practiced all summer and am now looking for other ways to get ahead. Have one archery quota at Tosohatchee but will be at Bull Creek as much as I can get away from work and St. Johns occasionally. Figured out during Turkey season that I'm pretty good at getting close to deer when I'm by myself and on the ground...so I'll be leaving the significant other home and going at it alone quite a bit for archery. He steps on every crunchy thing he can and I spend the whole time yelling at him to be quiet. Drives me nuts.

Probably trying to take too much on at once, but come to think of it that's how I've always done things. I will shoot you a message about the sit drag - be happy to send you a print for it!

Appreciate it ,

Lindsay

too funny. "He steps on every crunchy thing he can and I spend the whole time yelling at him to be quiet. Drives me nuts". At least he did not fall asleep and snore.

I think most of use have gone through leaving our spouses that are not use to being in the woods at home.

Yes mam sounds good. The red tide is supposed to be bad right now will have to see if anything lives. I run an offshore supply boat in Israel right now and am at the airport waiting on my flight. Send that PM and I’ll get that Sitdrag in the mail when I get home.
I also have almost given up flyfishing because of bowhunting but still take people once in a while. My flyrods gather dust more than anything and probably will if this tide is as bad as I’ve been hearing. It’s been going on for over a month and has been real bad the last two weeks. I used to do something that no one else does that I know of and that’s sight fish reds at night. It’s pretty cool they are a different animal at night with no pressure it’s right now till Oct when they bunch at night. But I’m afraid they are mostly dead here.
I haven’t hunted any of the N E WMA’s but have hunted several from the Big Cypress to Blackwater.
I understand the other half thing as my wife shop’s and I hunt and only with a bow.
Season started in S Fl on July 28th and the best part of the rut is middle till the end of July. I have a Quota for OK Slough Aug 11th to Aug 19th. Pretty stoked. It’s a good place for down here.

Well I was just talking about deer season! Turkey season he coughs, snorts, can't stop moving then falls asleep (after 10 minutes of him fighting it - head dropping/jerking awake) then cue the ground-shaking snoring. Best hunt I had all season was when I hunted Bull Creek alone. A little hairy walking out by myself in the dark, but had more deer come within feet of me and called an old hen in that hung around me a good 30 minutes. Nothing shootable, but I love turkeys and it was cool as hell. So close I could've touched her. Calling any birds in at Bull Creek is an accomplishment in my book. Loved it and it never would've happened if he'd been there! Lol.

I always invite my wife but she knows better. I can’t even get my friends to hunt with me so I’m also 95% alone and really like it that way. The walks can be a little scary but there will be few times in your life the the adrenaline will make you feel that way embrace it for what it is. I do carry a 45 because of the places I hunt do have a lot of critters that could but rarely do hurt people. I carry it more for the people that you could possibly run up on as they have become very unpredictable nowadays. Most bad people aren’t in the woods though. You Mam have stepped into my world and it sounds like you really love it as I do and I have great respect for you. I have commercial fished for over 30 years and have worked with a couple women that were some of the best crews I ever worked with.
I getting a little off track here. Season is open down here now but mostly private ground. Picayune opens tomorrow one the E end of alligator alley that’s less than an hour from me. You don’t need a quota for there. Big Cypress opens on Sept 1 it is a huge WMA but there are a lot of deer there. No quota reguired there. Send me your mailing address and I’ll send you a sit drag and an Evo I’m trying to sell with no luck. So you pay shipping and use it till you decide what you want then just send it back.
You will still need to get yourself whatever you want to climb with.
I have an XOP and LW hand Climber seat I use 90% of the time it’s the lightest easiest way to climb in my opinion. For Climber friendly trees.
Look at the LW hand Climber thread in here or YouTube climbing without sticks.
If your strapped for money use your climber bottom with the saddle. If you go with the Sitdrag you need rock climbing harness because you need to hang on the side of the tree while you adjust your climbing platform for leveling as tree gets smaller as you climb. There’s a video in the LW thread where I put the seat on a telephone pole at Saddlepalooza and showed those folks how I do it.
With that seat it weighs about 4 lb you only need your saddle and wear it a tether with ascender and seat platform as total method. It’s also your platform at Hunting height. If you carry your bow on your back you can hunt while climbing deer are curious and will come to Climber noise sometimes I had an 8 point in Everglades do it last year and I had my head up my butt or could have killed him.
The lightest most mobile method there is IMO.

There is also a picture of my guide boat I’m selling it 73 Aquasport 22’2. Also a picture of EVO.
If you ever want to come down and stay at the house I’ll show you what I know and you can try all the gear I have and I’ve got most everything there is. I also belong to a bowclub Lee County Archers and you are welcome there as I can take guests.
Well guess I’m dumber than a brick I thought I PMed you on this sorry be sure and pm your mailing address.

Welcome!! If you have the strength to climbe with a climber you have the strength to saddle hunt. I would say the keys are finding a climbing method that works best for you. Climbing sticks are the easiest imho followed by Wild edge steps. There are alot of resources on here and knowledgeable people that can answer your questions!! Welcome aboard!!
