For you soft saddle folks who won’t admit a hybrid is better…

It's funny the only "from the side" images you include are the JX3 pics.
Seriously, if a hunter is tight to the tree, no sky showing, IMO, you become the tree. If you are in a saddle leaning or in a tree stand with sky showing between you and the tree you may get picked unless you are using ASAT or Preditor camo. The same issue with the JX3, no place to hide. This is just my opinion. Each hunter will decide for them self what is best for them.

Do you pull your platform up vertical with the tree or do you keep it perpendicular to the tree?

Not sure what you are asking.
My platform is in my pack, I climb up attach my gear strap, hang my pack, then remove my platform and hang it.

Really, the only one stupid enough to do the second picture is Greg.

To be fair, there are several other saddlehunting glory poses like that but he likely pioneered it. Advertising, lol.

Here's one from the saddlemaster. Not really tighter to the tree than the John R. JX3 image. Just depends on how the set up is.

I certainly don't think the JX3 is perfect either. While your photographic presentation was good for a sly chuckle, it does detract from the captivating topic of padded underpants, lol.

But for real, a padded saddle works.

Anyway, here's JE.

Mr Plebe, no way I can argue with you, you always confuse the conversation with the facts, LOL.

Ok! Now we’re getting somewhere.

I tried one, two, three layers of 1/2” Eva in the sit drag way back in the day. One made a huge difference, the extra one or two did nothing. And despite how much better it was, it still sucked.

Obviously, todays saddles are a long way beyond the SD.

So, spill the beans!

What do you recommend for bike seats that have more cushion? The seat on this trek bike is clearly made for fast and hard, not slow and sitting for a long ride. Basically, it hurts my tailbone.

I mountain bike. They actually make saddles (seats) that are fitted based on your butt bones. Ergon on their site has a tool where you measure the circumference of your wrist and then answer a few questions and they give you a recommended saddle size. I have one and absolutely love it. Some bike shops also have a pad that you sit on then they measure your sit bones from the indentation.

I ordered the TN Blackbelt when it was first offered. I was a bit curious to check out a two panel saddle and had maybe a few soda pops that evening. No other saddle being sold at that time had padding, so I figured in a matter of discovery I'd kill two birds with one stone by ordering a Blackbelt.

I don't know the exact foam construction (if I had @4090Sharps skills I'd take it apart and see...it could use a cleaner stitch up anyway). It's not a particularly thick foam between the air mesh and cordura panels. But, in addition to what cushion it offers, the saddle is also more rigid across it's length than the typical saddle. (for an exaggerated analogy, think rubber vs nylon swing seat.) I think that matters to it's overall comfort as well. (Interestingly, Crossfire laminates a shaped plastic sheet in their shoulder harnesses...hmmm).

What I can say is it the saddle was stupid easy to get comfortable in. And adjustable in all sorts of ways.

I only had all day sits in it. They were no problem. Over time I still had that -you've been sitting in one position for too long- feel and changing position was in order. I don't think that's avoidable with any seat or saddle. But for me the padded TN saddle delayed that inevitable urge to change position noticeably.

There are some things about the saddle that aren't my favorite. The sliders are hard to adjust. The floating belt can slide out of it's sleeve (a larger buckle would solve that). It's black. Some other stuff.

Nevertheless, I am surprised the padded saddle has flown under the radar. I think TN will sell more saddles this year and there could be accolades if the new iteration has improved on the Blackbelt, imo.

The best analogy/explanation I've heard and also started saying is this..... Regardless of year make or model, if I sit in a vehicle on a long road trip for hours and hours I gotta stop and stretch/get the blood flowing again....new vehicles with all the adjustments available and seats that are designed with max comfort...and with that in mind if u can sit for 4-5hrs in a saddle with no breaks that's a win in my book....

I also have to agree that a more robust/ridged saddle makes for a better sit. I thought CGM was making small retrofit padded cushioning to add at pressure points?or maybe Im just imaging that......

I hunted out of my JX3 and my Transformer this season. They both have their place. If it was a shorter hunt, I used the transformer. If it was 4 hours or more, I used the JX3. I use the top of my one-stick and a ROS for both setups. Other than comfort and weight they both function the same in the tree and while climbing. I use the JX3 for comfort and the Transformer for weight. My JX3 hasn't had any upgrades and I feel sure if I did some upgrades the weight wouldn't be such a problem. The soft saddle functions the same as the JX3 in reference to being picked. I dont run a platform so I can't turn around and stand up against the tree. I try to keep the tree between me and the deer. And that can be done with either saddle.

For you hard bottomed JX3 hybrid folks who keep trying to get me to ditch my soft saddle because you think a hybrid is better…

... Buy me one with your money and I'll try it. ;)

Or let's get a list of people going, chip in 10 bucks and buy one together, pass it around and then give it away at the end of something. Out this debate to rest/ignite it further! I'm in for 10.

Might cost some coin to ship it about. On top of your demo fee, you'll end up out an additional $439 plus shipping when you order one thereafter.
