Friction Hitches

@Brocky, what's your favorite tube to use for a tender? Looks like you're mostly using bronze bushings from the hardware store? Do you have a recommendation as to how big it should be, in comparison to the width of the line, and how snug the crossed hitch cord should fit inside it? I'm hoping to experiment with the Bowie and Sticht, 9mm C-IV and 6mm TRC.

Thanks in advance.

All mine are 1/2” wide, the hitch cord bending over the edges keeps some of the load off the stopper knot, if using one. Make sure edges are rounded. They only have to be big enough to put the eyes through. The Sticht traps it from moving around, on the Bowie and other hitches, the leg length will determine how much movement, but generally it self centers.

Where would be a good place to buy cord to tie different style hitches like these you all are showing? What is the cord called also I’ll be using the camo predator rope to tie them on. Thanks and God Bless

Possibly a dumb question but,
I have a hallow block and I have a figure 8. I was going to see if I could attach the hollow block above the figure 8 with 4 wraps. Would this work and be safe? I’ve seen some people use a schwabisch hitch.

For the hollowblock, my favorite hitch is a klemheist.

This is the video I’m talking about at the 7:30 mark. Would the Klemheist do the same thing with the hollow block setup?

Climb, yes. To get down, you’d climb in reverse vs. rappel.

Where does the “cosmo hitch”fit in? I love it. But tempted to try happy hands

If you did the happy hands but used scaffolds like in post 132, would it tend ok in that configuration?
Yes it will work, in fact, keep one of the Scaffold tails long and make the Very Happy Hands, it shows seizing for the one eye because that was how it was originally presented on the UK arborist forum Arb Talk.

8mm hitch cord would be a good choice for that size of rope, some arborists even use 10mm for easier releasing. Arbsession has some nice ones, the Tendon Timber being fairly cheap if buying by the foot. EWO has a sewn Sterling Flex, but then the set length might limit which hitches can be tied. Woodhuntingsaddles has shorter Bluewater VT that are very good, also.

Any hitch that will hold can be used above the fig. 8. The video posted shows the wrong way to put the rope through the fig. 8, the bight should go over the top first, then through the big hole, easier for the rope to slip around the big eye and form a girth hitch if done as shown.

Look at that enormous stack of hitch/knot drawings. I'm bringing my photo copier over.
Seriously. Their's gold in them thar hills!

The "Bowie" is working like a dream on my LB so far (6mm TRC on 8mm ResTec). Takes up slack one handed just like a Ropeman, with no plastic or paracord do-dads needed. Just cord on rope. Releases even easier with just a light pinch. I use and adjust my LB constantly on my climbs, and that hitch is priceless.

Anyone out there still using a Ropeman should seriously look at these hitch options as a replacement. Thank you @Brocky!

Is this for an option so you don’t need a ring or something else to tend the hitch for you?

I asked him about that because I have 6mm TRC on hand but I do not have any eye to eye hitch cords. Based on the configuration of that hitch I felt like scaffolds would work and tend but figured he knew the answer for sure.

It’s a nice hitch also, I got some self tending. It is a little hard to get the eyes the same length. The paracord tender improved the tending, a stopper, or tube didn’t help any though.
