Man, I thought this was going to be the year I tried saddle hunting. But by the looks of things you can't buy a new saddle, at least not the few that I thought would suit my needs. Guess I will be carrying around a heavy stand for another year. Sorry, had to vent.

Lots of options out there. Rock climbing harness paired with a sitdrag or fleece saddle would be my suggestion. It’s cheap and works great. Plus when the ideal saddle comes available you have a backup.

Also, I don’t understand all the “now or nothing attitude”. I started saddle hunting in November on an OUT OF STATE hunt! Armed with sticks, rc harness/sitdrag, and old steps on a ratchet strap I marched into the morning woods. That’s right, I set up in the dark. I even saw deer with horns on them.

Plenty of options out there, plenty of people selling saddles. Us saddle hunters are a great group of guys who get it done.

Just post that your looking for a saddle in classifieds, you’ll pay similar $ as if you signed up & waited in line. Then if you want to upgrade later, buy a new one sell the old one............

Thanks for the idea. I usually go by the “buy once cry once” but you have a point.

Guess I need to do more research. I got all excited about the new models and lost sight of fundamentals. I do want to enjoy saddle hunting so trying to avoid early failure or disappointment.

Man what a tough crowd. Thought this site said people were here to help. Thanks for the advice.

Thrilled to offer advice, even though you didn't ask for it. If you're complaining in your original post, you deserve the ribbing. If you were joking in your original post, you deserve the ribbing.

Relax, pop a top, and ask a question! Here to help. Also, advice, since you're asking for it - don't show pictures of your feet on this site, people here have a strange hankering for feet and the things we wear on them.

Folks are here to help. Yinzer may have come on strong, but we've all been hearing the same thing every time we check the forum:

Mantis still ain't shipped yet.

It feels like an even crappier version of Ground Hog Day.

Totally agree, but given the current difficulty of getting your hands on a spankin new production saddle, it’s a good option. Any $ lost I’d chalk up to the saddle learning fund (its gonna cost you eventually once you start tinkering....) all that to say I’d do that before I waited a full season

Buy once cry once is a good motto, but you have to realize saddle hunting history. It's been mostly DIY with a couple small commercial comets that fizzled and burnt out. With the trendy new options we're talking Amazon when they just sold dirty womens' porno novels, and it seems you are expecting prime. If you want a treestand cabelas is old reliable.

Like Terp said, don’t waste a whole season!

This will be my first season saddle hunting. I have a Mantis on order and understand your frustration, so here's what I did. I built a DIY saddle from materials that I had laying around my house. I have about 5-6 hours of work in it because I had to hand sew it with a speedy stitcher. I shot my bow from it this evening and had a blast doing it.
