Buy once cry once is a good motto, but you have to realize saddle hunting history. It's been mostly DIY with a couple small commercial comets that fizzled and burnt out. With the trendy new options we're talking Amazon when they just sold dirty womens' porno novels, and it seems you are expecting prime. If you want a treestand cabelas is old reliable.
Wait...you mean we get porno novels AND a kegerator?

Man I love saddle hunting companies!

Buy once cry once? In saddle hunting? Lol you got jokes I’ll give you that!!!

Good luck getting your Mantis or Kite in time to hunt. There is absolutely no reason you cannot hunt out of one this year.

Advice: get your climbing method down now! Once your saddle gets here you will be ready

I kinda liked that movie.
I was also referring to the aero hunter models. I get it that people are ready for the mantis because it sounds awesome. Didn’t mean to be a dog pound on the frustrations of others.
This will be my first season saddle hunting. I have a Mantis on order and understand your frustration, so here's what I did. I built a DIY saddle from materials that I had laying around my house. I have about 5-6 hours of work in it because I had to hand sew it with a speedy stitcher. I shot my bow from it this evening and had a blast doing it.
i have been think of DIY options but I have never sewn a stitch in my life and don’t want to trust my life to my first stitch. I have briefly looked at what was needed to do the heavy sewing.

Already have 8 wild edge steps I am practicing with for my climbing method. Gonna add an aider in next so I don’t need to buy and carry more steps

You don’t have to do any sewing. Look here. You really started complaining before you did much research for yourself.

Man, I thought this was going to be the year I tried saddle hunting. But by the looks of things you can't buy a new saddle, at least not the few that I thought would suit my needs. Guess I will be carrying around a heavy stand for another year. Sorry, had to vent.
are you on a waitlist for the mantis or aerohunter?

While I did start complaining, none of your posted solutions are what I wanted. I have been watching the availability of the mantis. Thought the Kite would be easier to get. Then I figured I would slum it and get a Kestrel. That is when I became frustrated as none of what I considered the top three were currently available. I see a few in the Classifieds but they are all size 1, I need a size 2.

Thanks for the videos, I will watch them as soon as I get a chance.

Lots of options out there. Rock climbing harness paired with a sitdrag or fleece saddle would be my suggestion. It’s cheap and works great. Plus when the ideal saddle comes available you have a backup.

Also, I don’t understand all the “now or nothing attitude”. I started saddle hunting in November on an OUT OF STATE hunt! Armed with sticks, rc harness/sitdrag, and old steps on a ratchet strap I marched into the morning woods. That’s right, I set up in the dark. I even saw deer with horns on them.

X 100

Some of you new saddle hunters have absolutely no idea how lucky you are to be getting into saddle hunting right now. NONE. As little as five years or so ago there were no commercially made saddles available and finding one for resale was expensive and hit an miss. And there was little info available except a few OLD youtube videos. There are a ton of options including MAKE YOUR OWN. Thanks to this site there's a ton of info on getting a sit drag and easily making one. Several of us have also posted info on a cheap and easy fleece saddle that you can combine with a cheap rock climbing harness and have a legitimate and comfortable hunting saddle. So please, stop with all the complaining, do some reading in these forums and learn to be self-sufficient - the whole victim card is way overplayed in America today. Bottom Line - There is no real good excuse for not having a viable hunting saddle anymore - NONE.

No, I will probably get on the list for a mantis and look for an interim solution.

I was just asking because .5 to 1.5 months before the season is not the best time to completely switch up hunting styles and expect for it to all be ready for ya. In other words, noone wants to read somebody whining because they didn't plan better. I mean, no better time than the present moment. But can't expect it to go perfect with poor planning. The exception is if you ordered a mantis in may and cant control when it gets to you

How many of us would take some “poor planning” over a full season of having to hunt tree stands? The answer is every damn one of us.

I'm frustrated as well; but I can't complain, I can just try and find solutions. I was one of the first to order a platform, but because I live in Canada, I still haven't received it. No big deal, I found a solution to get it in my hands. Couldn't be happier, or prouder of the guys that put it together. Really cool stuff man.

I've got the interim solution for you buddy. I've got a rock climbing harness and a sitdrag I'll ship to you. I put it together mid season for me last year and hunted out of it after an hour of shooting practice. There's really no learning curve in saddle hunting unless you're really afraid of heights. Use your stepps to climb and as a platform - you're laughing bro! This year I'm doing the fleece saddle because I find it more comfortable. PM me your shipping info and I'll get it out to you. My only request is that you ship it back to me when the season is done.

Welcome to Saddlehunter. If you take care of the guys here, they'll take care of you.

Once again, I will reiterate, anyone with even a little DIY skills can have a saddle in 1 week if they are willing to do a little research and work themselves. Sitting around complaining about a product that is being held up by manufacturers is not going to make that happen for anyone.

Babs - great offer but I would never offer anyone something I did a DIY on - especially someone that doesn't take the time and effort to do it for themselves as in my experience they are typically the same ones that want to sue someone when something fails or goes wrong. Be carful bro.

I've been looking into a rock climbing harness and sit drag for the last couple days just to hold me over until my Mantis and Predator arrive. I'll probably just use my hang on until everything arrives. Pretty sure my wife will leave me if I spend one more penny on hunting gear this year... ...:disappointed:
