Hawk helium kick out

Its worked for me so far, but I havent put them on alot of trees yet. Overall I'm so glad I went to daisy chains after I learned to rotate the stick.

I have the same set up and occasional kick out.

weirdly I’ve noticed if the loop is tight and I’m barely able to get it on the Versa button that’s when kick outs happen. But if I go back a loop, to make it more loose and set the stick down to set it it reduces kick out.

i haven’t t tried rotating the stick though.

Yes that’s what I’m using as well the 20” helium’s. What are you using for your attachment method?
I have the EWO 1/8 Amsteel daisy chain and his woven daisy strap. But when I do use the pull strap that comes with it I don’t get kick out. When I climb too I often side load the bottom step when climbing and with the daisy chains I can’t keep them real tight to the tree.

Are you making sure the button is below the strap when setting the stick? Have the strap way above the button then try. And if your slot doesn’t line up with the button, slide the stick up carefully without losing the strap on the tree and meet the slot. Not the easiest to explain. But I use a webbing daisy chain and I hardly have issues. I used it last season and have been practicing this year

I am pretty much new to saddle hunting
This year. I have over 40 yrs in the woods
And am certainly enjoying the saddle game.
I use sticks to climb and I purchased the hawk helium. I did the standard 1/4 inch amsteel mod and also camoed my sticks.
I was concerned with kickout as I saw a guy that ended up in the hospital with a pretty bad injury. I decided to mod my sticks once
More and added a lone wolf versa button
To my sticks. I now have two points on the stick (top and bottom) that are roped to the tree. No chance for kick out. Also great for a tree that
Has a little bend to it. I know some guys might say it will take longer to go up but I figure no more than five minutes total for four 20 inch sticks. I made the mod to my
30 inch sticks also. Hope this helps anyone
Who has concerns about kickout.

I run 4 hawk full length sticks with amsteel rope mods, never have them kick, the rope is so much easier to use than the straps, and quiet as a mouse. Had all 4 out in the rain last night and no kick outs on a quaking aspen tree. They gotta be set good and firm. I like mine a lot.

Have you climbed yet?

I get my heliums set, move my LB up making sure its above the stick, put both hands on the top steps and step up. Never had a kick out. I use @DanO webbing daisy chains. Maybe practice more with 2 sticks really nailing it down. Probably not what you wanted to hear since season has started but it sounds like its just a matter of getting a feel for your straps and making sure they are good. Just my humble opinion. Good luck to you and be safe.

I love Amsteel, I actually enjoy splicing it and have made a ton of daisy chains in my life.
Having said all that...
Do the rope mod or buckleless method.
I used sticks for years and the rope mod (strap, rope or Amsteel) consistently works better on sticks than a daisy chain.

I saw on here recently something i wanted to try. A guy was using amsteel daisy chains. One loop on the versa button, then around the tree, wrap around the versa button, take it back and put it through a loop and pull it tight back toward the stick. Almost like a truckers hitch, and loop the tightest loop onto the versa button. Sounds real solid, but i have yet to get to try it.

Does anyone have a problem with the hawk helium’s kicking out on you? I can’t seem to get the bottom stand-off to really grip the tree. I’m using 7/64 daisy chains for my attachment method I’m not sure if I would have better luck with the factory cam buckles if that would help or not. Any suggestions?

I’ve also never had a kick out with the stock buckles and I have the mini’s. If you tighten the strap hard on the tree then pull the bottom of the stick off the tree and push down hard, they should not move at all.

I had a 20” Stick kickout hard this weekend. Lineman’s belt saved my life. I was standing on top of stick setting the next. As I was stepping up it was as if someone pulled a trap door. I fell, raked down the stick I was setting. I quickly put my tether on the tree and tried to recover. Took some time but I was able to salvage the hunt. The bottom standoff on these sticks don’t leverage well into the tree. I have experimented in the yard. I will be modifying another strap on the bottom of each stick. Especially my top stick IMG_1555.jpg
that I had a custom platform made. The stick makes a clunk noise when I shift on it. It’s the bottom stand off!

Glad to see you’re ok but Are you using the original straps for the sticks?

Yes I used the original straps and buckles. I also only hunt when it’s cold. Below 45*. Many of the male buttons have broke. I emailed and did the call back message Hawk with no response. The kick out issue is serious. The leverage point on the stick is off. I will modify to make them safe. I was a mile in on State Land alone when this happened. I still fell 5-6 feet before the lineman belt grabbed. This was two days ago. Feel like I played a football game. All beat up.

I find I can’t get them tight enough with their strap I actually prefer daisy chains over their strap. I take a daisy chain and if I need another loop I make another wrap around the tree or use one of the loops like a come along sort of. I get them to where it’s everything I can do to get them to come loose. Actually stripped one of the tree brackets bolt out doing this have to buy another better bolt to fix this. I’ll try and post a picture of that issue too their hardware isn’t very good I’ve had to retighten bolts more than once or twice.
