HELP Just single lunged a buck

It would have been very tough last night to continue to pursue I somehow feel I should have tried a little harder last night. I know that's second guessing but I was so close I don't know that I would have been able to follow the trail because he turned almost 120 degrees to follow the trough

Nice! Congrats on a great buck. Almost always safer to wait until the morning if the weather allows.

If you get an opportunity can you show the entry and angle for learning purposes? Thanks!

Congrats! Great thread @Kurt. Thanks to all for sharing, took a lot away from that.

Well good morning boys I was so close last night 20 yards it looked like he was starting to go uphill so I called it a night to come back this morning he cut back south because it was downhill in this little trough between two ridges I found him unfortunately last night the coyotes found him to. I'm sitting here a little heartbroken this morning I'm very grateful that I found him I appreciate all your input very very much I cannot say thank you to you all enough but thank you thank you thank you

Outstanding end to the roller coaster ride! Way to do work.

I’m glad you found him. Congratulations on a great buck. It’s going to be one of those hunts being told many times in the future at the camp fire.

I’m glad you found him. Probably no worse feeling when hunting. You did the right thing backing out. I would have done the same thing.

Awesome story. Thanks for taking us along.

Man, sounds like the same exact shot placement as that doe I posted about in my thread last month called “blood went dry”. I’m pretty sure now that our insistence on tracking her the night of the shot led her to jump out of her bed and clear over to the next county. I wish we had just waited. Congrats on the recovery!

Congrats! Glad it worked out. Stinks about the coyote but you did what was right with the information that you had at the time.

Man this thread is intense. Good luck @Kurt !

I was thinking as I read that you caught shoulder. Do you remember the sound? Was it a crack? Also I don’t think you said what lb draw you are Pulling? I’m interested because I shoot a similar set up with 65 lbs and I can’t believe you didn’t get more penetration at 15 yards.

Now let’s see pics of this buck!!
I shoot 72 lbs. and I paced it this morning 17 yds confirmed.
