Hit a buck high, need help!!!

Are tracking dogs allowed in your state? Don't rush anything and don't push too far

Did you find blood? If so, how much? Did the arrow pass through? I’ve shot a couple high. Both times ended in a body search but I recovered both deer.

Get a tracker and check the blood if found. I have been on a few tracks with a local guy. If it’s a one lung they sometimes try to keep running and bay the deer. They like to keep the wound open. But some do make it. We had a deer last year that made it.
 
If you hit one lung the deer has a good chance of surviving. I helped tracked a few bucks with one lung hits and never found them. But they did show uo on trail camera pictures and they looked fine. But each deer acts differently when hit so you never know. Good luck.

No blood at impact. I backed out immediately. Dog will be on the way in a few hours. My trail camera caught a pic as the deer ran off, so at least I can confirm shot placement. I'll keep yall posted!
 
How high up were you and how far was the shot? Lots of variables. Got a picture of the arrow? If you think it's one lung, and have the real estate, I would push him. But again, lots of variables. The dog is always a great bet.
 
Well I had no luck with the tracker. Almost zero blood. He thinks I must have just hit shoulder and the shot angle kept it all in the shoulder meat instead of letting it get into the body cavity.

Man that stinks!!!! How far did y’all stay on blood? Was the dog able to track a good ways past last blood?

Just for my own personal learning, what’s your setup? As well as height in the tree and shot distance? Sorry you didn’t find the buck. Happens to us all though. Go shoot another one
 
Ugh I’ve been there with a doe already this season. 2 weeks later I still can’t shrug it but you got to keep positive and not let it affect your confidence
 
Sorry to hear he got away. Hang tough we've all been there.
