How bad is this recurve tip crack?

Epoxy, a lot of test pulls on a tiller board and some extra padded string loops could go a long way but that's obviously up to you if you want to take the risk.
I'll add if you decide to fix it and have the test pulls done, wear safety glasses and something that'll cover your exposed skin if you shoot arrows (I use my leather welding jacket with collar up) but be aware it could still come apart.
You could also add overlays and re-sand/file your string grooves or make a shorter bow and re-tiller. There's lots of options!

Seems some wood glue or gorilla glue could potentially put that back together. I know it shock loads every time you shoot it. But I have seen some glue and a vise do some pretty crazy stuff. Maybe I'm wrong. I have been before..

If it was me, id avoid the risk. You could fix and shoot it a hundred times without a problem. And what if it fails mid drawn on the buck of a lifetime? I’d just watch your local Craigslist and find another $100 bow. They come up all the time and many of them are great bows with lots of life left I’m them. Or buy that samick sage. This is the cool thing about shooting trad bows, you can get a functional beater for cheap and not worry about it.

Ugh I just posted this in my vintage recurve on the way so apologies for double posting, thought its own thread might get more notice. My "new" bow showed up today damaged by USPS. How bad is this crack on a scale of "it's only cosmetic" to "don't ever try to string it, it'll explode at some point"?

iMHO I would avoid a future fail by avoiding it in the first place. iI built a self bow once that cracked like that and after one season it split. Avoid the heartache sooner than later. So sorry to hear it came cracked. Move on Pal!

@thedutchtouch got promotion email from Lancaster. This is a pretty good deal on the updated Sage. I would say get it in 30-35 lbs if you can. The updated 'elite' no longer have those pocket but use a 2 pin system like the Black Hunter which I think its better.

I wouldnt string and draw that bow but I have had 2 compounds and 2 recurves go fatal either while drawing or at release. Part of the reason I laugh when I hear people talk about target panic. Have a few go boom and get back to me. LOL. I like the man cave decoration idea.

well, the FB seller and i have been talking, he's offering either a ~40 lb shakespeare or a ~45 lb ben pearson bow as replacements, i didn't get any model names or anything so not exactly sure how to compare. right now i'm leaing more ben pearson jsut by the look of the two bows but i dont know much about them. i think it'd be easier to have him send another than issue a refund, which is OK with me, still going to plan on a sage as my primary learner and get one with 30 lb limbs. didnt get great pics of either, so not really sure what to do, i like the look of the solid/ ben person bow slightly better, than the striped riser/shakespeare one, dont really know why. 333336985_754459422690147_6337763140882584212_n.jpg333148563_230533756079408_431821530777047263_n.jpg333544913_907492700484628_9170980892233819815_n.jpg

I have a Ben Pearson cougar that I love. It’s not a fast bow, but it’s reliable and consistent and has taken enormous abuse with grace. It was beat when I bought it, i then used it daily for a year which included many hunts in the pouring rain. I even tracked a buck in deep snow and and almost shot him at 10 yards! By the end of that season the bow looked beat to hell. I steel wooled the limbs, lightly sanded the mahogany riser and put a few coats of finish on. After that it looked and shot like it was brand new.

Alrighty, decided, we shall see what this one looks like soon, seller seems like a good guy still, he told me to chuck the last one on the burn pile, so I don't think he sent it cracked on purpose if it wasn't USPS fault.

Hopefully he packs the next one in more than just a thin cardboard box…

I have an old 50lb Ben Pearson Mach 1. I love that bow, it's been great for me for many years

I have no idea what model it is, looked through some old catalogs and the closest color/wood combo I can find is the deer slayer? Which if it turns out to be... I guess I'll have to eventually try to slay one with it.
