How much have you spent on your saddle setup?

I hope Ive not destroyed any marriages by starting this thread. Its been a barrel of fun reading all the replies. Looks like most of us are in the same boat on spending. We could argue the saddles are better than boats. Bank on another thousand..... seriously.
Don't most people find what works best and then stop buying new stuff? I think I am there.

I guess the buying never really stops, just slows down alot.

There’s always that thing where the grass seems greener. That one bites me once in a while. Usually once a year at least. But trying to get over that as time goes on.

Same. There's always a lighter stick, better attachment method, less bulky rope, new saddle to try, etc. Having to remind myself to focus more on the deer than the gear, and I'll do just fine!

Very interesting read!
Just started my collection this spring so I’m way behind most of you, but still have enough invested.
Tethrd Phantom setup w/ropes and a dump pouch
Strapping & thread
Camo fabric
Full size Hawk Heliums
OOAL Solo Scout (shipped)
Done for now except for......??

I spent a fortune this spring trying to lighten my setup and reduce bulk. Now I'm spending on items to refill the lost bulk, oy.

Just order two lengths of oplux, two kong tacticals, and two oval carabeaners. Ouch.

Yeah for sure. That’s the way it should be and is. But I’ll be honest, a big part of the enjoyment I get out of deer hunting is the gear.

Coming into this season, I think I’ve done this stuff enough to know what I like and don’t like for the most part so I can see myself plateauing a bit on most of the more expensive purchases. It sure needs to because the money I’m spending in the last couple months on this stuff has to stop lol.

All i know is im in deep...

right now im hanging in a phantom, no stick climbing with 2 aiders or onestickin the predator, rapelling with 40ft oplux + madrock safeguard + deltalink + trc prusik + 2 tethrd biners all in a tethrd dump pouch with doyle hoist and gearstrap, and using 10ft oplux linesman + trc prusik + tethrd biner in a small dump pouch that also holds my nostick aiders. I think it is as light as i can get while still sitting comfortably...

I look at all my hunting and fishing gear as tools that allow me to feed my family and community which to me is priceless.... especially living on a rock in the middle of the ocean...

Exactly. I am far from a trophy hunter. I bow hunt as many deer as I can (unlimited doe tags during archery here). And when I lived near the ocean spear my limit in as much fish and lobster as my freezer can hold. Vacuum seal it all, feed my whole extended family and trade with neighbors and friends.

Yea i spend a good bit on the things that make it enjoyable/fun/comfortable...I bet I make it back in meat x10 (excluding turkey lol). I can honestly say I havent bought meat or chicken or fish (excluding shrimp) in over 3 years now. We have two 7cu ft freezers and in the process of building a walk in cooler for aging. If the freezers are full we donate the deer to feed the hungry. So many deer around me its insane.

Out of all my outdoor hobbies tho, hunting takes the gold medal for money down. Theres just so much to learn and new things being sold. Saddle hunting has taken it to a whole new level haha

How you building your chill box? my cousin built a chill box for aging and was using an AC unit that had some sort of adapter to make it ultra chilly....

I would love to see some of what you hunt there. Island pigs? Do you have deer?

I've spent a lot more this year than in years prior. Crazy what we'll do to chase deer. Paying with PayPal is both the best and worst thing to happen to me. It's like Amazon's 1 click buying.

I understand how you feel. Ive been using quadpay. It just breaks it into 4 payments. Pay 1 upfront and get your stuff. The buying is addictive. Glad the curve is flattening for me. Just a few things left and I will be mostly done. I plan to pickup a good backpack, and maybe a treehopper drill bolt setup. Other than that, its just the smalls you buy every year to hunt anyhow.

We have old style pigs that were brought by our ancestors still roaming deep in the mountains (small real rusty and grizzly) and we have cross breeds from those mixing with domestics that escape and i have heard stories of guys catching russian crosses (brought by the Russians back in da day). We also have spanish goats that have developed into two crosses (most live on cliffs and rocky hillsides but we also have forest goat that have super shaggy coats and live deep in the bush..). We got blacktail brought over from Oregon (only on the west side deep in the mountains but they are slowly making their way to other places via the center of our island). We also got plenty wild gamebirds to keep your shotgun loaded... we used to have mouflon sheep but they are gone now...

Plenty opportunities to hunt everyday if you know where to go and put in the time do your homework...
