How much to buy your bow?

Had to go take a proficiency test the other day so I was eyeing bows in the shop when I left as we all do and it got me thinking; maybe if I sold this one I’d buy that one. Let’s just say you shoot your bow well right now. Season is real close to starting or you’re already out. Stranger comes up to you in the parking lot with cash money; how much does it take to sell your bow? Why are you selling and what are you buying?

More than I paid for it is the short answer. He would be paying a premium for sure, just because it's hunting season.
I've got three bows ready to hunt so I'm not at a loss if I sell one. I buy my bows when they're a couple of years old, from guys who want the newest bow out there. Don't know what I'd buy, maybe a bow I've never owned like an Elite or buy same manufacturer as what I sold.

Glad to see you’re back @slonstdy! I agree with what you said!! Or look for new old stock from dealers etc. that are priced down to move inventory.

I'm with @slonstdy I can be bought and I have a crossbow hanging in the garage. It would have to be more than what a new set up later with cost me. Expecially if he needs everything attached to it. I still haven't come across that deal where a guy with a pocket full of money if looking to aquire what I got bad enough to give me all the money in his pockets.

Seeing as how I have mine dialed in, and I’m sitting in the tree with it right now, it ain’t for sale. Now when it decides to go out of tune in the middle of the season again, I might give it to him.

Short answer, it would be worth his while to buy a new bow. Long answer, I do have a spare bow. He can have either one for what I have into it which is about 3-400 less than retail.

Mines a heartbreak lol I have a 2015 prime alloy and it’s decked out. Realistically I couldn’t get more than $250-$300 with it fully set up, compounds just don’t hold their value like you would think. But it would take easily $1500 basically enough to get the new omnia and set it up and that’s what it’ll take lol but as I’m only using my recurve this year it is for sale lol everything is technically always for sale for the right price and time of offering lol

Hmmmmm, I kinda like this mental turmoil…
If I’m dumping out here, $1M and the bow is yours, I’m buying 500 acres in Southwestern OH and another 500 in Southern DE.
If I’m trying to answer somewhat realistically, sell for $2000 (worth about 1000 brand new) and I shoot it well so I’d like to get some overhead if I have to get a new bow anyway. Then I’m either going to fall victim to the Elite Shootability Challenge or just sell my soul to Mathews lol.

That "parking lot" guy wouldn't buy my bow and setup, because I'd want way too much for it. :)

I spent a lot of time selecting the bow that I purchased and about 10x as much time getting it setup for the arrow weight, flight and accuracy. It is exactly what I want, love it as is and don't want to go thru the setup time again. ;)
Elite Ritual 30, 57# @ 29", QAD Ultra rest, Trophy Ridge React single pin sight and a Tru-Ball Scout wrist release.
Gold Tip Hunter XT 300 at 27", 100 gr. brass insert, 150 tip weight and 3" feathers. 525 TAW and 22% FOC. Grizzly single bevel, Maguns BuzzCut and Steel Force single bevel broadheads have been killing all the deer with 1 shot and they drop within sight. Nope....I'll not sell it!

Well many years ago I learned a valuable lesson. Just don’t price it if you don’t want to sell it. I owned a bear dog. He was a superstar but his blood line was almost gone. He was already old and he was gave to me when I was 18. He was supposed to teach me to bear hunt. He was the last male of a certain stud dog. He was my first ever bear dog that was a legit dog. A man came up to me. Asked me what I would sell him for. I said ten thousand dollars. He wrote me a check. I slid the check back to him. 2 days later. Dog got hit by a truck. So If some one wants my bow in the parking lot. It’s 10 grand and no sliding the check back this time.

It's amazing what guys will pay for dogs. I had a guy I worked with who ran coon dogs. He said these guys would come out of no where in beat up old trucks and throw 5k plus down with out thinking twice if the dog would tree a raccoon. I thought saddle hunters had issues.....

Bows have gotten too expensive. I think I will build my next bow. I'll buy a big chunk of 6061 and make chips.
I agree and that's the reason why when I buy a bow, I own it for years, before upgrading to something new. Then when I do, it's last year's model....new, but leftover stock.
If you've noticed, traditional bows tend to hold their value better than modern compound bows. :)
