It’s been so long I forgot how bad it tastes! It’s karma I guess. Skill, good fortune, the best hunting grounds or whatever else has caused to be arrogant. I will admit I have on occasion looked down my nose at people thinking, how? or just idiot! Now to the dish where my pie got served. I was sitting on the east property line ditch between a huge crop field and a CRP thicket. The ditch has mature oaks along its banks that are dropping acorns and deer traffic in general has been heavy. There are two shooter bucks using the area. A large trophy 8pt and an old declining 8pt cull. Most of the pics have been between midnight and daylight. There was a strong storm line with 20+ mph wind most of the night and the wind was still out the west this morning. I slipped in early hoping that the weather had pushed their routine back a hour or two. I was right! Here comes the cull 8pt a heavy body buck from the south. Completely unaware of my location he stopped in the wide open broadside and less than 10yds to my west, right strong side, a gift, so easy I was already thinking about bragging. Well, with the description you bow hunters can almost see the arrow passing right under his chest immediately behind his front legs. In the mud went the slick trick and in my mouth goes the humble pie. Karma, arrogance, pride, I don’t know but it tastes like ! Hope everyone else is successful this morning. Good luck and be safe.
