I once had a guy walk up on me and when I waved him off he suddenly turned and came right to me. I was thinking "Great, last thing I want to do is have a conversation at the tree . . ." We've all had them . . .
"are you hunting?"
"yep"
"are you seeing any"
"not in the last five minutes and probably not for the next five"
"do you sit here all the time"
"Yep" a direct lie but why not . . .?
Etc, etc.
Well it turned ot the guy was scouting for rifle season and was seriously lost. He was extremely happy that I had "flagged him down". It turns out he was more than 2 miles from where he'd left his car and was walking in a direction taking him directly away from it. On top of it he'd left his young son building a rifle blind while he went to "look over the next hill". I ended up climbing down and walking him back to my truck and giving him a ride back to his car where this young son was patiently waiting. Apparently this wasn't the first time he'd gotten turned around like that.
