Hunting Pack

That's why I built it. I wanted something I could use for everything by adding and removing stuff easily.

Life has held me up working on this. So the base is 98% done. Still have a couple small tweaks to make. I think I will add a sleeve for attaching an optional load bearing waist belt. I opted to use an EXO shoulder harness instead of making one. Frame is 1/8" hdpe, 1/4" closed cell foam, and carbon arrow stays. Versatile is the name of the game with this idea. I have some add on options for this thing in the works. I will post them up as I get each done. Possibilities are endless.

Again, very, very nice work. I hope to reach your level of skill some day.

Is the 1/8” hdpe not robust enough to exclude the arrow stays, and what keeps the stays from working there way out, just the hook and loop closure?

I picked up some cheap arrows to serve a similar function. My thought was to use a mesh back panel with the arrows forming a curve to keep a space between the mesh and the body of the pack (trampoline design) , for venting, weight reduction and a substitute for foam (I’m not looking to haul anything over 20#). I also thought about using hdpe but I’ve never worked with it so I’m not sure how flexible it is, how heavy it is or what thickness to use. Can you shape it like Kydex with heat? I’m assuming that you used the stays because the 1/8” hdpe is somewhat flexible. Would you happen to know the weight of the sheet?

I haven't been on for a while. That is a slick set up! That is the kind of thing I had in mind. Awesome job! I Like the idea of one pack for all tasks. Can you share your dimensions on the HDPE?

It's funny how many DIY guys from rokslide are on this page.

I think you would be doing yourself a disservice by not making it hip belt capable. Hek it may be as is if you do a kifaru duplex style belt that just basically has a sleeve to accept the frame sheet. A lot of guys who saddle hunt will probably never pack an animal out on their back. But it sure is a nice option to have.

Don't be scared to tackle some shoulder straps. They are a little intimidating at first but once you break it down you realize how simple they are to make.

I use my kifaru ultralite copy cat frame for everything from backcountry to packing all my gear into urban spots and then packing deer out to not draw attention. Modular systems are just the way to go imo. The 26" frame is excessive for anything besides backcountry use though. I have been thinking about building one of the extendable frames like is offered by some companies now. That way it is smaller and does not stick up behind your head in day mode, but once there is meat to be packed you extend it up to get full load lift function.
