I have a bone to pick with some of you...

Where the skys are so blue!
For sure everyone is different. And I've tried it all. Climber, hang on, ladderstands, big platform, little platform, ring of steps, bolts, top step of stick, and just standing on a limb. They all have merits. Disregarding comfort (subjective) and setup effort (less subjective, but still subjective) I feel a ring of bolts offers you the most shot options on the most trees. You get to pick and place as many solid footholds on the tree as you feel you need on that tree.

Most of the options can work most of the times for most of the hunters.

And some of the options work none of the times for some of the hunters.

And all of the options work all of the times for Nutterbuster because he's the best. Anyone who says otherwise only says so because he stays awake at night wishing he was as awesome as Nutterbuster.

(Y'all didn't think I was gonna get lame just because I had a vendor badge again, did ya? ;)

But for realsies, everybody has different goals and priorities. I'm glad GCR started a 7 page and counting thread on the ring of steps. Really, everybody should probably own some and a good platform. And a pacseat. And a hand climber. And a hang on stand. And a 5 gallon bucket. But if ya can only have one, get a 5 gallon bucket.

note to @DanO. offer EWOTASDAGS (eastern woods outdoors tactical assault storage device and ground seat)

Now you made me go make sure @DanO isn't selling 5 gallon buckets on his website . . .:joycat:
Nah. If he did I'd have to announce it in the vendor forum now. :)

Y'all wanna know what's awesome about a 5 gallon bucket? In the mud it traps a redonkulous amount of air and the pressure that builds up means you don't sink when you're duck hunting. Ask me how I know.

And it’s easy to shoot 360...

does the ring of steps not slide down the side of the bucket because it’s so smooth?

I just don’t see how an OCB can get it tight enough without cracking the bucket.
If the bucket is tapered from the lid to the bottom then I think it will hold tight once you push it down to the lip (bucket upside down). I am still trying to figure out where my tether goes.

Stick your JX3 in the bucket, problem solved.

:fearscream: Look what arrived today! I got them on a tree and they are quite sweet. I’m not sure If I love the angle up on not but they are plenty wide enough for your feet. They are surprisingly larger then I expected. They are noisy about like the wood blocks to be honest. I’m going to try the OCB on both the wood blocks and the tree hopper steps and compare. Ain’t gear fun?DCF858B2-9618-4B43-91F9-183E456DC6E5.png

I couldn’t do the angle on the Treehopper steps for some reason.

I have been using 6 squirrel steps. 2 sets of 2 hockey taped together that I stand on most of the time the 2 singles for maneuvering around. Weird I know... but it works for me.

I think squirrel steps are sweet but I get hung up on the price. I like what you did doubling them up. I’m undecided on the angle up on the Treehoppers.

Think of how much money you've spent trying various bits and pieces and then selling those items at a loss (however minimal) plus the shipping expenses incurred and you should realize that you've spent a whole lot more money (and time) than if you'd not have flinched at the price of a quality item like a ring of Squirrel steps. Hence the expression "buy once, cry once". A ring of Squirrel steps is also cheaper than any platform other than a Scout.

It amuses me reading posts about guys trying every other ros and complain about packability, noise, comfort, wish it was folding, wish it was angled, wish it was wider wahh wahh wahh... The wheel is already round so why does everyone want to try and make it more round I'll never know.

I have spent a lot on saddles buying and selling and I’ve lost a decent amount on shipping but that hasn’t been my experience with platforms. I bought the scout and was satisfied with it so it’s hard to justify spending more than that on a platform or ROS. This was my first purchase when it comes to ROS and there is only one other purchase I could make regarding ROS in my eyes and that would be squirrel steps. There isn’t much to go round and around on for a ROS because there just aren’t that many options(worth trying). Even so, half the fun is going round and round at least once.

Buy once, cry once doesn’t exist for this dude. He is the ultimate shopper and doesn’t lose when he sells. He is still shopping with the 1st $300 his wife allowed him since he got married. Plus, even if he comes across the best setup, that won’t be good enough for him. He will sell it, realized what he had and buy it again, then see something else that turns his gears and sell it again. It’s a vicious cycle. Sometimes the chase is the most enjoyable part. Lol
