Always been a ring of steps guy. I hope in the near future a company comes out with a bigger step. Tried the squirrel steps and Treehopper but didn’t like the small size. I use the large screw in Ameristeps on private and they are awesome!!!

Is anyone climbing with a ROS? I basically put the steps together and then hung a 3 step aider on steps. The only difference from climbing with this vs a single stick is that with dano standoffs the aider lays further away from tree and I can get about a foot or so more height with each move.

LOL, I made a set of those 2X4 steps probably 40 years ago to climb trees with on public land. Awesomeness!
These were left over from 3 years ago. When I first transitioned from a climber to hang ons I made 10 them to climb with. I got a lot a flack from the safety police but they never gave me a reason to doubt them.

I went back and forth with platform and ROS for a little and then this past season I went ROS full time and I’m not looking back. Light, packable, super easy to swing around the tree and stable.

I have tried both a platform and ROS separately. Both have their advantages and drawbacks. One approach I’ve used and really like is to combine both....and the best of both worlds! Towards the end of last season I used a platform and put 3 or 4 steps one the platform strap. I liked that setup a lot.

I think the Catalyst Outdoors steps coming out will be wider than others, but don’t look much longer, if any.

I don’t think it would quite work, but in concept something like a ROSolo Scouts would be interesting. A couple of mini platforms with some pitch.

About 40 years ago I was in the Berkshire Mountains in Massachusetts about a mile out in the woods up in a tree when this guy in green came along with binoculars looking in the trees. I knew he was looking for me so I kinda waved at him so he could see me and he came right over to me. He told me to send my stuff down to him then get down out of the tree. I sent my pack down then started to climb down and he told me to stay up in the tree. He sent my pack back up to me and while leaving said last shooing light is 5:15. He basically ruined my hunt. I had to cross a river to get back to my truck and there was a little make shift bridge I had to cross it. As I approached it a spotlight shined on me and it was this same game warden. He was checking to see if I had an arrow ready in my bow after dark LMFAO! It was so dark there was no way a bowhunter could see to shoot a deer with a bow. Anyway he checked me out again and we talked for a while and I finally told him I thought he acted like and Azzhole the way he treated me in the woods. He apologized and said he has met a lot of jerks out in the woods but when he saw how I climbed the tree with the blocks he knew I was a legal hunter. He ended up being the commissioner in Mass years later. LOL

If anyone has flat feet and wants to go to a podiatrist and spend some money to fix that, then the hard plastic ones are really nice. It not only allows me to walk without knee pain, but it is like a hard shank you can move from shoe to shoe. I can stand right on the edge of a platform and I have no discomfort. They are molded to my foot and stop at the ball of the foot for flexibility when walking. The plastic is some super polymer with fibers in it that is super tough. I've worn my current set everyday for 5 years.

I'll probably end up trying a ROS next year, and I expect the insoles to help.

The weight is in the saddle not your feet So much with the ROS so there Is not a lot of pressure on them. My feet get more sore on a platform than this ROS today. Hard to explain it but it’s something to do with the geometry and being closer to the tree.

Thought it was that new saddle that made it so comfortable?

I find my ankles hurt from my boots pushing on them from the flat platform. I like the predator because it's not deep. I can let my heels hang off. But with the mission i can open up my stance, but I am so far away from the tree. ROS is going to be ordered soon. I can have my feet apart, but not have them 12" away from the tree.
Has there been rummors or anything new in those? My choices are bullman, ameristep? , Cranford, and EWO?? Am I missing someone else making them?

I originally started with a ROS and then got caught up in the tetherd platform hype. It was like night or day for me. Platform was cool but ROS was super comfortable for me had the tree more for cover could walk around the tree less weight it was just great. I think it also had to do with what you start with and then willing to give a try. The treehopper steps are amazing as well I've got 6 was using my own strap but converted to the ocb buckle system. Needless to say I sold my platform after only 5 hunts in it.
