Is there an end to the "wants"?

I always thought it was the boy with the most toys wins????? Seriously though, I think by nature we are also gear junkies and so it goes hand in hand that we are constantly striving to find the best thing that works for us. I do think people should spend way more time in the woods and improving their woodsmanship skills then spending money on gear but the gear is fun. I've learned from being a trapper that you have to "set sign" and be sure your gear will hold the largest animal you expect to take. To catch numbers, you need a lot of sets in decent locations.... so much of hunting is odds and probabilities so any new gear will not tip those odds appreciably in any one direction either way as long as what you do have is functioning properly and you are comfortable and confident with it. There is something to be said for the person that uses what they have well and fluidly compared to the person that has a lot and can't use any of it very well.

I thought this 2019 article in outdoor life summed it up pretty well... https://www.outdoorlife.com/secrets-deer-hunting-gear-minimalist/
However, the authors set up is very "2019". I wonder if he has dropped the full set of sticks / saddle for the many options discussed here?
Im getting close to "good enough".
I ve found it helpful to take a similar approach to clothing/ I consider multiple use pieces, more wool, less camo and if i cant fit it in my 1 tote and 1 dry bag = i dont need it. If i do, i make room by passing something on.
Only hole in this strategy is late season, inclement weather and multi day trips.
Gets tough to keep things; dry / scent free/ warm with the one set approach.

I for one don't know why you guys give a rat's *ss what anybody else spends their own money on. Most guys sell their old set ups when they upgrade so technically they aren't dropping thousands just a couple hundred. This is also great for our economy and great for the guys that want to upgrade by buying slightly used.

I’ll admit it can be a struggle. Its helpful that I like minimalist hobbies, but having several tends to leave me never set. Recently I acquired a gun dog, so that’s been an ongoing outlay.
I justify it that kayak fishing, bowhunting, upland bird and duck hunting, still cheaper than paying for a Ranger bass boat and the F250 to haul it.

No it doesn’t end. But if you buy the right equipment and take care of it. You can sale what you don’t use to fund the newer gear. Because some of it you want use or need after some time.

If you guys think saddle hunting is bad in terms of wants VS needs I double dog DARE you to try reloading for precision rifle accuracy.
OMGG but the wants in reloading for maximum rifle accuracy truely truely never will ever end as the technology and technological advancements these days surrounding precision reloading is literally developing at an exponential rate.

Its not that anyone cares about what the neighbor spends their money on. Its that we can see our own foolishness and put it on display for others to hopefully not make the same mistakes. Its called empathy.

Funny I was just thinking of this question last night. And an interesting twist to this thread which probably deserves its own thread is to ask the community - what products do you believe END the wants? Because that was my epiphany last night and I have two such products... drum roll!!!!!

1. Eberlestock x2. Wow! It’s so good I want to do a YouTube video even though I’ve never done one bc IMO the videos I’ve seen haven’t addressed the strengths of this pack for saddle hunters enough. No offense to the content creators, love your videos I’m just saying there is so much more I have to say about this pack for saddle hunters. One caveat to this though, I do still have a want for an early season light, quick hunt pack, and I’m targeting the 3v Gear Outlaw sling for this application.

2.Predator for obvious reasons. The reasons are well documented by myself and others

Those two items have retired my WANT in terms of even considering searching for something better

I see no end in sight for me. I'm a total gear junkie and I am able to convince myself it will make me better when I know full well that none of it will actually make me better. Only time in the woods and practice improve your skill.
