JX3 Hybrid Video

@bowhunter15 John has a nice design there and it’s super modular. If John was in camp at saddlepalooza there was someone sitting in it. I never watched anyone put it on. Watching your video it looks like the waist buckle and leg buckled are plastic side release buckles. Are they rated for climbing?

They're plastic side release. I'm not sure of the weight rating. That would be a good question for John.

I actually asked the same question a few weekends ago while working on a saddle hunting article for a local outdoor magazine. John stated that the leg loops were not load rated.

I imagine swapping them out with 1", no-sew cobras would be pretty simple. Side release buckles are fairly strong. Tethrd uses g-hooks too, which aren't load rated but evidently survived thentesting they put them through.

To be honest when I hunted out of it last fall I didn't even use the leg loops.

I was just asking. There has been a lot of talk lately about rated leg loops and no one had mentioned the guidos/jx3 not having them. John mentioned that the harness part of the guidos web was already certified and he didn’t want to change it. I had never paid attention to it having that type of buckle on the leg and waist buckle.

I think if a guy wanted it would be really easy to swap out for some of the high strength aluminum quick release buckles. I can see you you could theoretically slip through if all of those buckles were to fail while climbing with just the linemans rope but it would need to be a perfect storm I'd imagine. Once the bridge is hooked up to the tether, you can dang near take off all of the straps and be at low risk of falling out. Not that you'd ever even really need to do that though.

I agree. A rated waist buckle would be nice but not necessary unless you pull an @flinginairos and a tornader flips you upside down and spins you around a tree.

My question is will you use the one stick climbing method with the hybrid? That is what I am doing. I know in a lot of your past videos you have done the one stick climbing method.

Back in the day, one of my favorite set ups was 2-3 muddy sticks with 5 step aiders coupled with the guidos web. Each stick and aider would get me 7.5 feet. If I needed to get higher after the last stick I would just one stick up the rest of the way to as high as required. @flinginairos actually has a couple YouTube videos demonstrating with the GW. It's a good balance between speed and weight/bulk.

If you really want to cut bulk and weight, the JX3 or GW is the most comfortable option to aider only climb. It's a bit tedious like single stick and like single stick only adds a few minutes to your climb. However, like bolts, the climbing method fits in your pocket.

Bowhunter15, I'm on the list and can't wait to get the JX3. thanks for the great instructional video. Can you give a little info on your gear hanger and what pants were you wearing ? do they have built in knee pads?

Pants are cabelas stalking pants. No built in pads. They are just reinforced. Gear hanger is the HME utility strap.

Awesome video. Those steps interest me a lot, just wish the steps were slightly further apart.
