Kestrel hip pinch

@320thmp, can you try sliding it down further and see if this makes a difference. It may feel weird at first. When you slide it down you may need to adjust the bottom straps. I can see why you're having hip pinch, t looks to me like most of the weight is on the top strap of the saddle.
I slid it down in the tree it didnt help much. whats weird is the bottom strap is whats pinching the worst.. and if I try to pull the adjustment straps it makes it a lot worse.

I had the back strap on in the tree. I actually had to use it to support myself cause the pinch got so bad. Does anyone know if size 2 is wider ?

Try it again when you're on the ground just to rule it out.

But with what you just, try actually sliding it up a little bit. It is hard for me to relate what I have found to someone else right now and I'm away on a business trip so I can't put it on to try and verbalize it more. It is like the saddle has started to break in and there is a sweet spot where it cups my butt very nicely. I'm trying to figure out how you're getting hip pinch with the lower strap though. I did have the straps put extra pressure on the underside of my butt until I got them to cup it right.

I don't know guys. I tried all that stuff in the tree. I was messing with it more than watching for deer lol. I adjusted bridge length 3 or 4 times slid the tether up and down. Pulled it up then down again. Im actually still sore. I really think I need a wider one. It's not just a slight discomfort. It actually bruised me. No matter what I did it was brutal. I have owned several trophy lines. The large was comfortable for me. The medium I had this same issue. Also the pics are in sweat pants. In the woods I had 3 pants layers on. I def appreciate all the help. I am going to try the suggestions again tomorrow but I really think I need size 2

Had it so low at one point it was on the back of my thighs. Just to add the only place it pinches is at my hips near the bridge connections. Everywhere else it feels great

I have a big butt too. The size 1 covers it well enough. I find that the kestrel and sit drag and any other minimalist saddle, are a lot like a foam roller. You're putting a ton of pressure on parts of your body that aren't used to it. Just like a new pair of shoes, its going to get better with time.

It does sound like something is off though. It is amazing how minute of a change can make it all better. Keep at it.

Try your tether at chin height.

Ditto. That’s exactly how I feel.
This is my first experience hunting from a saddle. I love the concept but absolutely hate it while using it.

Oh I definitely agree when I first tried saddle hunting four years ago I had a trophy line and there was a period where I needed to get used to it so I do know it takes some time but this is to the point where it's pretty painful not just a discomfort level that I have to get used to

If you really want to try a comfortable saddle like stand the guidos web is the most comfortable stand I've ever been in that goes for climbers lock-ons and anything else

I have a web and love it. Two now actually haha.

I sat in my kestrel for the first time last night in "hunt" mode. Even with having several hours sitting in it at home at ground level, it's completely different afield. I will admit the first half hour of my hunt was less than comfortable. I was on a tree about 12" around. I ended up with my tether at chin height (I'm 6'3) when standing straight up, and the kestrel pulled low on my waist. I used my jim stepps for the first time in two years and as a platform for the first time hunting. I settled in just fine after getting everything tweaked just right. I anticipate that being the case in the future too

The worst hip pinch I experienced was with my trophyline several seasons ago. The Aerohunter Evolution was much better than the trophyline, but after several hours I would start to get some discomfort and get fidgety. The kestrel is a dream (for me anyway) compared to both the trophyline and the evolution.

I will say it took several seasons to get to the point where I was comfortable for the the majority of my sit. Now any discomfort I experience is usually foot-related (dang XOP seat beats out screw in steps any day of the week).

I am 6'2", 235lbs, size 2 kestrel. I like a 24" length bridge (under load - this is important because of iyou tie it off at 24" it will stretch even longer when you are hanging from it - tie it 16-18" and see if that doesn't help) eye level of lower hookup. Generally I stand/lean. Not much of a sitter on stand only to switch it up to keep comfortable every now and then. I run a ropeman on my tree tether, which eliminates the need for accessory cord and prussik knot that requires a much higher hookup.

Sorry to hear you're having issues though. Is this your first year using a saddle? Some of it might just be simply getting your body used to sitting and wearing in it.

Thanks for input. I started 4 years ago with a trophyline.. the was a period of getting used to it for sure. I found the large to be comfortable. I had a medium and a large. I bought a Web which Iove but dont love the bulk or the fact that I cant really wash it. I went to an aerohunter and there was a grace period with this as well. To many adjustments in my opinion lol but still once it was set it was great. I have never had hip pinch like this so having been around saddles for a few years I tried a bunch of things last night. I was more worried about that than watching for deer... lol. No matter what I did I could not get comfortable. I went from a shot bridge to long tried different tether heights. Slid saddle up and down my rear. My waist is actually 38" I measured last night. Also I had 3 layers of clothes on. Boswell told me the size 2 is 3 inches wider total and thats my issue I feel like its just not wide enough and is pinching my hips to the point that Im actually in pain.

It seems most people think the hip pinch could be because the saddle is worn too high on the waist. So where is the front waist buckle supposed to be? Should it be where you buckle a normal belt or below that? How tight should the two leg straps be?

Definitely below. Maybe well below. Keep the leg straps loose, you don't want them applying much or any pressure.

Ok this certainly could be my issue. I am climbing via SRT. The kestrel rides up my waist during the ascent. I guess I need to try and find a way to readjust the saddle lower after I ascend.

Just Got off the phone with new tribe, I am sending the size 1 back and they are shipping me a size 2. So I will post again when I get the size 2

Great!! They are an excellent company. Hopefully the size 2 addresses your discomfort.
