I fully admit that I couldn't suitcase-carry it the full 1.55 miles. About a half mile in I switched to whatever worked. Goblet and rack-carry initially, and then at around the halfway point I was swapping each shoulder I rested it on and stopping at a park bench every couple of hundred yards.

Sounds like me trying to get a turkey out of the woods.

Well I didn't feel to bad yesterday just a little sore everywhere. I woke up feeling quite sore this morning though. That's normal for me, seems like I'm always the sorest 24 to 36 hours after a workout. Planning to do another mile tomorrow or maybe later today depending how I feel.

After years of arborculture and stone masonry my back can’t handle carrying weight in the way a kettle ball would be held. If that same weight was in a pack or even dispersed into two buckets, one for each hand I’d be able to consider the challenge. But for me carrying all weight out front would slip a couple of my spinal discs right out and I’d look like the hunchback of Notre Dame.

Suitcase carry is carrying it by your side unless I am mistaken. It actually works pretty well until you get to tired and your form breaks down. You can kinda swing it with your normal walking or running motion a bit. It would be a lot harder with a dumbell or something else that would need to be held further away from your body.

I’d have to divide the weight into two suitcases and have one in each hand. Lopsided loads are back killers.

No offense, nutter, but this is a very bad idea for someone that is not in extremely good shape and/or young

You are going to torque the crud out of your rotator cuffs...that's where you're going to hurt yourself is in the muscles that hold your shoulder in place

These muscles are some of the most fragile in your body if they are not worked out...and this challenge isn't the way to start doing that

From someone with a messed up shoulder from work. You dont want to go down that path. I can draw my bow still but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I won't be able to do that and I'm only 36

Certainly contact your physician and get his okay. Probably should have started with that premise. Lord knows most saddle vids start with precautions.

Been thinking about this a little the last couple days. This challenge is perfect for me in a lot of ways. I hang and finish drywall for a living and hanging sheetrock is all about grip strength and carrying weight on one side of your body. Combine that with being a bigger guy and enjoying running and doing somewhere around 8 miles a week for probably around 10 years. My running has tapered off a bit in the last year and a half since our little one showed up.

I guess what I'm saying is I'm not training my weakness and don't want to come across like Im better than anybody. I have gained some weight and have been looking for something to motivate me to get out there. I'm going to set a goal of hitting the 10 minute mark and then maybe if I get there try to work down to 9:30 or maybe 9.

If I wasn't against getting hand tattoos I would have had 11R tattooed on my hands long ago....hahahaha metal mafia inside joke that most of u normies won't understand

With my back I couldn't take a sustained off balance load like that too well.id have to do 80% or 90% left hand carry....im confident I could grit thru and do it but not for the likes of u peeps

I started the training for this today. I did 1/2 a mile with a 24kg KB in 8min. Your back definitely starts getting fried quickly but keeping the pace was the hardest part. Doing a mile in 15min will be a really fast pace even jogging sometimes I would think. I plan on working up to a Mile then trying to get faster after I complete the mile a few times. Really this would be a good starter exercise for a lot of people as long as you start with smaller KBs, and start with farmers carry first before switching to suitcase (this will take a lot of strain off your core). Unless you have a current injury there should be no danger for getting injured if you start with light KB's.

Revisiting, after a few more runs/pushups (25 getting too easy, bumped up to 25x2 yesterday)... I'm in for getting back in shape /holding ourselves accountable to the group etc, just don't see the point of this particular type of exercise/challenge. No knock on those of you doing it/I'm sure it's difficult, but I'm going to continue on my whole body/functional fitness/endurance pathway, rather than going out to buy a kettlebell for this.

I’m interested to try this just need that size KB. Closest I have is 50#. I did a mile this morning no KB in 5:40, interested to see how much the KB will slow me down. I shyly posted this challenge in the veteran (veteran fitness people not military veteran) section of the fitness forum just to see and almost got laughed out of it lol got a lot of “thanks for the warmup” type posts. Just made me think the 3 diff forums I’m part of are 3 completely different worlds and the vastness of how different people are will never cease to amaze me positively and negatively.

Did a light day with a 16kg (35lb) weight. Definitely feeling the forearm pump.

Been mulling over the comments regarding a disclaimer. I'd say for sure know what you can/can't do and start small. I didn't jump straight to a 35kg suitcase carry.

I think it's odd that when I raised the topic of physical limitations as regards to climbing safety in another thread(s) there was general pushback against that. That pushback was part of the reason I didn't lead with advising the old, the feeble, and the crippled not to participate.
