Now I'm back! with 2 slick stick Longbows lower poundage and can't wait to get in a tree. Two weeks for Ky open labor day weekend!
The only reason I sold my Longbows was having problems with my neck and back but now I'm using lower poundage long bow with heavy arrows and 30% EFOC. I'm really happy with the new setup my arrows are going deep in my block target at 18y. Just some thing about traditional hunting you can't explain to someone who hasn't pulled back the string on a nice buck or even a little doe is a trophy in my book.@KYhunter66
I did a similar thing by buying a crossbow, before I retired and thinking that I'm getting older and should have one....just in case. I shot a doe with it and it was the most empty and unrewarding feeling that I've had while hunting deer. Unless I get injured or just can't pull a vertical bow, the crossbow will remain in storage.
This year, I've picked up an ILF recurve and an ILF longbow and intend to hunt with them, instead of my Elite Ritual compound bow. I feel like I need to make up for lost time and get some traditional kills.
When I was just getting into traditional archery I asked about how long before I could hunt my good friend long time bow hunter told me. If you want to hunt and could only shoot good enough at 12y then hunt at 12y I took his advice and killed a deer at 12y! I hunt out to 18y now just go for it! But know your limitations. Good hunting!!!You guys are making me feel inadequate about going back to traditional and just putting the compound aside. I hope to be there next year but so far I am definitely not firing on all cylinders figuring out this tradition stuff. I have to get to a point that I feel like I can make an ethical kill shot 10 out of 10 times before slinging an arrow at a deer. I love hearing about y'all's progress in the journey though.
@katiesmom maybe we will cross paths one day in our GA woods... happy hunting this coming season everyone.
