Latitude Method or Recon sling

I'm an avid reader of this forum, not so much of an avid poster. I've read a lot of what you have had to say about the Recon and appreciate the insight. I don't have anything against the metal on the Recon but the metal free and design of the Method peeked my interest.

I know the Recon is comfortable by reading the time tested reviews that are past the initial release of the sling. The Method also has good reviews on comfort but it makes me wonder how much of that is really just excitement about a new product
This is how I look at it, both of them are 2-panel saddles/slings but the Recon panels are active and self adjusting, which is a result of the metal plates.
The panels of the Method are not self adjusting because they are hard-stitched together at the bridge loops, therefore each panel is a fixed size.
When he 1st started to make a saddle, Mark made a couple prototypes similar to the Method design. They just left something to be desired. IMO, the fixed panels are a sacrifice compared to active panels.

I like my Recon a lot . As Ontariofarmer said, it’s cheaper too. I would start by trying the Recon first. If you’re not happy with it, Mark Cama at Treehopper with take it back no questions asked. I have first hand experience with that on another one of his products - he goes out of his way to make you happy - and that’s rare today.

At this point you may need to take delivery time into account.

I've been using a Aerohunter Evolution since that came out so if I did go with the Method I would have something to hunt out of until it came. Our bow season doesn't start until Sept 27th.

I really like the method. It has so much adjustability to it and it feels like you are wearing nothing walking in it. The metal less one is super slick. I don't think you can find a quieter saddle. You can slide the prussics up and down the bridge loops to adjust the tension on each panel.

I have a flex and a phantom also. I will be using the method this year. I have also tried and sold the trophyline lite. I haven't tried the recon so I can't comment on it. Once they come out with a bigger size I will probably buy a second method for cold weather and sell the flex and phantom.

Having messed with a bunch of DIY clones and a couple of name brands ( Mantis thru JX3) I haven’t found anything as comfortable as the Recon. Everything is subjective of course.

Just because I can’t stop myself from messing with stuff, I added a waist belt and adjustable amsteel bridge. Neither were necessary but like I said. Bottom line I, something significant will have to come along for me to switch from the Recon.

If I was to go with the Recon I think I would mod it a little bit to include what I like about the Method. I would probably stitch in some paracord loops (or something similar) around the top panel strap and run an Oplux or Amsteel waste belt and add some clips to hold the bottom panel to the top just like the Method.

I still think the CruzR XC and Tx5 and JX 3 are more comfortable for me than a recon. But the recon is the most comfortable of the light weight saddles I have tried. Just my subjective opinion

Ok you guys are talking me down from the Method. With the extra cash I might get an OOAL Scout from DanO for my Hawk Helium clones.

But damn I was liking what I was seeing from the Method!

There is lots to like with the latitude . I like the way the bottom panel hooks up
I like the bridge
I like the Oplux waist belt
I like how light it feels.
All better than the recon.
But for me the recon is more comfortable and that is for me personally. Comfort is my top priority. It is cheaper too.
Both are well made
I say all that with reluctance because I want both companies to do well.
Young guys with the latitude trying to establish a business. I hope they sell a lot of saddles.
And Mark is just a great guy to deal with.

So I pulled the trigger on the Recon. Received it in the mail earlier this week just in time for bow opener that is today. Mark was great to work with when it came to sizing, bridge material and general questions...you couldn't ask for better and extremely timely customer service.

I've been hunting from it for a few hours now and have to say I'm impressed. It's not a lazyboy but when you have been sitting in one position too long the panels are easy to move and find comfort again, a lot less fiddle factor than my Evo. It does have pinch points but they are on your upper thighs and not your hips which makes a huge difference.

As for packability it can't be beat. I hunt the mountains and it easily fits in its little stuff sack and gets thrown in my bag without hardly noticing it was there. My Evo was worn in (it would take up my whole pack) and very evident it was there on my miles trek up the mountain. The weight and space savings is incredible while giving around the same (maybe a little more) comfortability as my Evo.

To say the least I'm am very happy with it and want to give a big thanks to you guys for helping me with my indecisiveness. Now if it would only bring a damn deer by my tree!
