Let's talk UV: bought a $19 light and made an interesting find

EDIT: Just realized the title of the thread is "Quite possibly the best $19 I have spent . . .", I think I may need to take exception to that statement. Like everything else here this forum is gonna cause me to spend more money!
Clickbait title? :D Not descriptive at all. I don't like it.

I got the Atsko light for fun due to this thread. This one was interesting, a burgundy towel that I would not have expected to glow. It is not detergent as some other colors (green and gold) did not glow.

@Red Beard it would be a nice service to future users of the site, if you added something to the thread title about "UV light"

Interesting topic. I just wash hunting clothes in one of the detergents the .mil approves of. Cheer "free and clear" or something like that...

Some of the dye and scent free detergents still contain UV brighteners, even though they appear ok at first glance. I don't have a list, but i have called several manufacturers in the past and they will confirm for each product.

So... I completed the treatment per Atsko's instructions today. I washed everything first in their detergent, then liberally applied UV Killer while everything was damp, and then air dried. In UV light there is a slight difference from the original. Looks like the super-white has been replaced with a slight bluish color. Guess it's not the night and day difference I was hoping for though and I'm kind of bummed. Still, the kids bought the set for me so I'm going to keep them and see if I can kill a deer while wearing them.

For reference, I forgot to apply the UV Killer to the very bottom of the right jacket pocket (under the crease) and you can see how white it still is.20200826_173342.jpg20200826_173242.jpg

@Red Beard - Thanks for sharing you results. Were the clothes dry for the post UV Killer treatment photo, or was the photo taken when they were still damp?

No problem buddy. This is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to get out of the test/discussion.

They were completely dry.

Here's another garment after treatment. Quite an eye opener. You can tell here I missed a few spots.

This is funny, because I just crowned all my arrows in Rustoleum Max Glow spray paint...

i definitely think this is true. we used to put this chemical treatment on peoples lawns to keep the geese off it. it was UV reflective or something. we couldnt see it at all, just looks clear, but when you spray it on the grass the geese get sick after eating it and then if they see that patch again they wont go near it. thought it was bs at first but 100% it really did work. they will eat right up to it and stop. it was called "FlightControl"

This was intersting. I have truetimber camo pants on and you cant even see the pattern...(it was still light out but dark enoygh for my trailcam to switch modes)

You think this is from uv?

Isn't this infrared (IR) mode and not UV ?
