Lightest double step sticks to date 1.2lbs

Let us know how they hold up. I have concerns with the slot on the step damaging the carbon fiber when you stand on the step and weakening it. I don't know if it's a valid concern or not so I'm interested to see how it works.

My only concern too. Flex. At the step may elongate the hole or crush the stick or even cause it to shatter like a broken hockey stick

I spoke the a vendor of carbon fibre tubes and putting a hole in it will compromise the strength

Test it as the bottom stick for awhile to be sure it is safe

Let us know what you think after abusing a stick two feet up

I would be highly interested in seeing a 100% non-metal stick. CF tube; micarta, polycarbonate, or other synthetic steps and stand-offs, and epoxy in lieu of hardware.

Bonus points for folding standoffs that would reduce the amount of space between sticks for stacking.

Says the guy looking to buy carbon fiber Spurs... Haha, but seriously, if from day one I had just bought one of each of the lightest and most expensive and just stuck with it, id have way less junk in my house and way more money.

I already have CF spurs. Best money i've spent yet! :D

Hey @Swampfox I have a couple questions. Number one do you have a link to where you bought your carbon fiber sticks from? Have you considered using a spacer inside the tube to strengthen around the bolt holes? And since we live so close to one another would you mind if I come ride by your place one day and take a look at these sticks in person?

No I don’t mind if you ride by and check them out. I got the sticks from eBay, they shipped from china(prior to the trade war). Yes I’m thinking a spacer and possibly some support may be needed where the step and bolt are.

Road Trip! Who's picking me up in Michigan??

What I did for my platform using aluminum tube is put a solid aluminum square spacer inside where the platform connects. I was going to do the same with some 1/16" wall aluminum sticks but had 1/8" laying around so didn't need to. Would add some weight to your sticks, but not too much.

Carbon Fiber tubing dealers also sell round tubing or smaller diameter square tubing that could be cut to fit and placed perpindicular to the square tubing walls with the bolt passing through these short pieces. It’s lighter than the aluminum.

I was thinking the round carbon fiber tubing too.... resin it in. Perhaps a couple intermittently placed throughout the length of the stick as well.

You would be placing 3 tubes in the stick, one at each bolt. I don’t know much about resin but JB weld or Devon would work at the bolts. Just coat the bolt with Turtle Wax before you insert it through the tube. Gunsmiths use Turtle wax as a release agent when they bed a rifle.

Why are you wanting to add pieces to the carbon fiber? They haven’t even been tried to know if anything is required.

Just a consideration in case the carbon cracks or shows a lot of flex. The carbon is uncharted territory. We are all very interested in the outcome of this project.

Old man use to have the carbon fiber stands and I think they didn’t hold up in freezing weather well.
