Well no dice. Goats decided for whatever reason to hightail it right to my tree and then settle in for a nap. I’ve seen deer go around them when they’re on the move but not when they bivouac so I just packed it in. Next time….

You need to bring a slingshot with you next time and drive them suckers away.

I got out for my first hunt of the year. I climbed 2TC over a hot red oak along a creek. I'm really liking the 2TC so far. It is so nice to have the whole climbing kit in one backpack. Nothing seen AM and PM I had a 4 point and a 10 point about 100 inches come in about 6 PM last night. I decided to let the 10 point walk. The full write up of the hunt is in the team 10 thread. It was a very good first day of the season for me. I'm a little saddle sore today as I suspected. About 8 1/2 hours in the saddle will do that on the first day.

Comedy of errors for my first saddle sit of the year last night. Took forever to cut limbs in order to climb up a multi-trunked maple. Had 3 does bust me 1/2 way up. Two dogs circled me a few times. About prime time, the combine was out to harvest beans in the field I was next too. Good times! haha!

On the plus side, I was pretty happy with the stability of my new XOP platform. Pretty heavy for it's size by very stable for side pressure.

Sounds like lots of peoples first sits lol. Use a 2nd rope and go around the branches instead of cutting them and buckle up when the combine is running -- sometimes it runs deer right to you, sometimes the deer run to it if they're used to knowing that there's now a bunch of leftover crop on the ground. Get back in there ASAP

Got off work early, sat for 4 hrs and saw no deer again(2nd hunt)...but I did see a little grey fox(look closely on the trail)for the first time in its natural habitat! He spent alot of time looking at me while I fumbled to get my phone to take his picture! He/she was very cute!
I have seen no bucks on any of the cameras I have out.....but hopefully that'll change!View attachment 72629View attachment 72630View attachment 72631
You should have taken that gray fox if legal. I know up here we can't take furbearers (with the exception of coyotes which opened 10/1) until the 25th. What a neat little trophy.

This was my second sit on Monday. Just had a spiker, doe and fawn come under my stand. Had better action the evening before but I wasn't in a saddle. I was on a ladder in a cornfield. One of my targets came out but he was too far away. Traveling with a super tall spiker!! On a terrain transition, outside point and old apple orchard. The one target buck came in from the field edge with the tall spiker the night before, I was hoping he would have duplicated his movements.

We can take coyotes all year, but I'd rather trap the fox than put a big slice through its little coat! Trust me, I'm gonna try and get him! I do my own fur tanning and am just trying to get 1 of each legal animal for my wall!

I had another good hunt today. The morning was uneventful. The evening I had 2 does come through right at dark. No shot was presented but I got out clean. I used the 2TC again today. It really beats hauling those sticks around.
