LIVE from the saddle 2023

Found blood 30 yards, it picked up pretty good but by no means a blood bath, just consistent. Ran that out 100 more yards and the blood started coagulating then it started raining. @Kenbama was kind enough to come out there with me for several hours. No joy fellas. I’ll call a dog and/or grid search tomorrow. Maybe we’ll be blessed and find it.

12 miles on the bike today, was really hoping I’d have a deer to show for it. Talking to a guy with dogs, he said they can track after a rain. We will see if he is willing to go 2 miles back there with his dogs in the morning.

Good luck, hopefully he's close to where you called it quits

Any updates? Also, what is your hunting set up? Broad heads and all.
69# Elite Synergy, 30” arrows, 29” draw, gold tip Hunter xt 300 spine, g4 Montec 100 grain three blade fixed, with 100 grain insert.

the guy with a dog I found had to cancel due to an emergency, headed to church, if I can’t get a dog I’ll grid search after.

If the dog doesn’t find him Check all the drainages near the hit sight run up and down them all. Usually they will be in a low spot but also that crack could be a leg bone which means he may be hurtin’ but will run forever. If the blood looks like vein blood. Good luck man!!!

Hoped to get at least one hunt in this weekend. Yesterday being forecasted as the better of the two with potential for heavy rain today. I planned to hunt the afternoon and should have been better motivated to get an earlier start with less distractions in the morning.

I didn't start into the woods until ~2pm and with the hike in wasnt unpacked and climbing until ~3:00. Was still in my linemans belt standing on my second to top stick trying to secure my .75 when these two came out of the swamp ~75yds angling towards me with my bow still on the ground.

Nice 2 1/2 old buck with light tan face that had already dropped and younger darker spike/fork. The big one got to within 12yds before getting behind a couple big oaks. Rather than stand there taking pics until they got closer and winded me, I decided to try and pull my bow up to try and shoot from the step. While big one was obscured feeding and the other had its head turned away i began to pull it up. Bow made a slight rustle in leaves as was coming off the ground. Which startled both and they moved back 40 or so yds from direction they came. They stood there a bit and resumed browsing.

I managed to get my second cam strap on the stand and tight. Got my tether around the tree, disconnected my linemans. Moved up onto the platform, got my waist pack off and secured to the tree. Got my bow up and sat when 3-4 mins later I hear a deer blow. These two were still maybe just 60 or so yds away upwind and didn't react so I didn't think it wasnt them who blew. Another 3-4 mins, another blow and then a louder blow and I pinpoint the direction to not quite downwind of me about 75-80yds away. Looked like big doe with 2 yearlings started hyper blowing her way out of there all 3 tails in the air. The other two didn't spook or run just meandered in their same direction. I hoped that the 2 might make their way back for me to get a shot at the smaller one but my N/NW wind shifted to S/SW within the hour and my sit till dark yielded nothing but a long walk back with my tail between my legs. Kicking myself for not getting in the woods for noon as I had planned. Still a good day in the woods and why they call it hunting.

I'll give that area a break till next weekend for one last attempt before season close. May hunt a different location today before the rain. I don't have any more leave left but I think I may feel a sore throat coming on sometime this week.

Is that blood you showed at the hot sight or later where the buck stopped?

No joy. Sign was all washed out and the dog didn’t take up tracking hardly at all. Only thing I can figure is maybe my site got knocked around with riding back and forth 6 miles on bumpy road. I’ll shoot it sometime soon and see. I ain’t trying to pout but this one particularly stings considering he was 10 yards broadside. Cheesecake shot that should have been an easy kill. Shout out to @Kenbama for all his help this weekend.29940384-63A9-46DB-82CA-7038CAAF4765.jpeg

Man that stinks. Especially since you've been toting your stickbow into the woods every time and this time took the wheels.
