LIVE from the saddle 2023

I always aim for the lead doe, BECAUSE the subordinates don’t freak out like when you shoot a younger member of the group and the mature does go absolutely bat guano. I shot a pretty old doe last year, had four deer with her and they all kinda just hung out for a minute or two after the initial “where’d mom go?” Even had three bucks come in and sniff where my doe was standing less than 5 minutes after the shot. Same happened with the mature buck I shot last year. He ate an arrow, took off, and the whole herd just kinda confusedly let him pass and I had to spook a few off before I could get down.
I rifle shot a doe several years ago. Hard quartering-to shot out of a tree stand, clipped both the spine and heart for a "bang-flop". After the shot her girlfriend ambled up and supervised while I field-dressed her and started to drag her out. I should have put my other tag on the girlfriend; I thought I'd get a shot at a buck but somebody else got him instead of me and I never saw another deer that year...

I came back to the truck for lunch and mainly to wait for the wind to switch and watched this family of 4 and their dog pull up, get out, read the sign that specifically says no recreating on hunting dates without a quota permit, and promptly walk into the woods with the 2 kids jumping around, running, and yelling +dog barking

Yet ask the general recreationist, and hunters take/use more than their fair share of the resources? SMH.

Let the "recreationalist" start buying licenses to enjoy the great outdoors...see how that plays out with the Karens and Kens ;)

Got out yesterday AM with a buddy. Couldn't find a great tree and ended up in a four-trunked maple near a field edge. Got busted at 645 or so, right about the time he connected on a decent doe. A half hour later I had a doe down. Short tracks jobs for each of us but it took over 3 hrs to get them dressed and back to vehicles.
