Years ago I chased one across a winter wheat field up in MO with full intentions of kicking it like we grew up kicking possums and coons, until it made it to its burrow. He was fully prepared to make big stand once backed in that hole. He got my full attention at the point I got a good look at his teeth and claws. Left him be in his hole and went back over where my buddy and the farmer were. Farmer said he wasnt quite sure what was wrong with me cause that was the dumbest thing he had ever seen anyone do and that I should be thankful I didnt catch up to him before he made his hole cause he would have torn me a new butt hole. Lol. He didnt redneckinize the fearlessness of a possum kicker. They'll tend to run away from a human as a first reaction. Unless cornered. Like most wild animals. I personally wouldn't want to test the theory, though.
All I can say is that squirrels no longer hold the title for loudest critter in the forest. This guy gave zero ****s about any noise he was making. He hung around the area for 10-15 minutes and eventually made his way up a hill and away from me.
