Loc-On Refurbish Project

And does the horizontal seat post in the correct spot? Or does it need to go in the front of the two vertical posts?

I have a loc on limit. I replaced the cables. However, the stock cables came with the eyelet flipped and then flattened a bit. I replicated it with a ball pen hammer. Do you see that bend in your top cable? It takes that out. Pics in a second, gotta fight snow. Edit: First pic shows that flipping cables and shaping ends makes everything straight when folded open. Second pic is a bonus to show how I ran a Lone Wolf strap behind the plate and join the two loops with a Petzl screw link (works great). All hardware is new and Grade 8 (I recommend you replace everything with new grade 8 hardware while you are messing with it, it's cheap to do). I did yellow zinc coating to help with rust.

To shape the cable ends, you can put them on an anvil/top of bench vise so that round side with cable is down and it makes a little lean to shape. Gently tap the lean to down and it will shape it like the factory (slight curve so that cables aren't being bent).

This makes so much sense! Thanks!

and did you bend the actual eyelets?
And you put the strap between the plate and posts correct?

Yep, those eyelets are solid steel. You can carefully put a slight bend in them and it is no big deal. You can see hammer marks on them in my pic if you zoom in. Just go slow and tap them. I used the rounded ball end of a ball pen hammer so I wouldn't gouge them. The metal guys here know more.

For the strap, just lay it on top of the posts and then put the plate on over it. I have washers on the bottom bolts holding the plate on in order to create a little space for the strap. Also, I wrapped the plate and the posts with several wraps of gorilla duct tape wherever they would contact the strap. I didn't want any sawing action on the edge.

I found one of these in the metal dumpster at work 2 years ago. Strap was missing and it needed a new cloth seat

That’s just the info I’ve been needing. Thanks for the insight! What sort of seat do you have going there? I see the multicam

It came with it. I think it was as "as new as possible" factory seat. The cables were toast, but it was good.

I tried a stretchy seat they still sell for them (slump seat), but it stretched too much and my butt ended up way past my knees.

If you have the dimensions, this seat would be an easy thing to have made for you.

Around the seat, I ditched the pipe insulation and went with a heavy pool noodle split in half.

One more thing, I'll look tomorrow on this....I might be wrong those washers that are spacers between the post and plate might be on the top bolts. Top bolts make more sense sitting here on the couch because they would keep the strap away from the bolt threads.

That makes sense too. I’ll check around online for a seat. Lemme know about the washers. No rush

For the seat you are missing the post that bolts to the top 2 bolts on the square tubing just above the cables. Its a 1/2 or 3/4 aluminum pipe that the back of the seat hooks to. Google pictures of the Windwalker or Limit. Look at this photo:

It’s on there, just on the wrong side right now and I believe may have been cut a little short by previous owner

You will need it longer if you are going with a factory (type) replacement. The seat cover mounts on the outside of the square tubing.

I think all the factory ones are rounded also so that you aren't sitting on a 90 degree edge.

I'd think about some 6061 round tube drilled in a drill press and cut to length.
