The bolt mod helps that tremendously. I do not believe the holes being cut and bolt being installed is the issue with the few that have failed. I will be keeping my bolt mod in place and keep on trucking. I have faith in what I am seeing and am backed up being that I am tethered in at all times.

Before you give up and before doing anything else just tie wrap duct tape or what ever you want to use and tie the arms down then climb. Report back with your thoughts on how just that affected your ability to climb the same tree..... Curios to know

Has anyone else tried using the lone wolf hand climber seat as a method for climbing with your saddle? jhicks54 posted this over on AT and I'm currently in love with the idea and just happen to have one hanging around..

Just make sure that set up has a safety rope/ tether or even just paracord to retrieve it if it falls. I tie it to my crotch straps on the mantis

Just traded my sit and climb top for the hand climber top so I'll be trying this soon.

For those that have tried it....what are you using as safety line in case the platform falls?

I had mine fall and even had a safety para cord from the outer most edge to my crotch. A better way is to also have some para cord on the tree side of the seat so you can maneuver it like a puppet. Or you can just pull it up to where your hands are and position it. Since that dropping event, when I get to Hite I now screw in a cranford right where the platform meets the tree secure them together. Can’t drop (but also is fixed in place, so another cranford screw in goes on opposite side)

Just received another LWHC. Shout out to @huntrwilliams. Fast shipping and smooth business. Im going to set it up today with strap between the platform and last arm bolt nut rather than between arm and platform. Hopefully this will eliminate the arm from pinching inwards. I used my old one without the bolt mod and it worked just fine but if I do want lift, I will try hose clamp and avoid any drilling into cast.

Pine trees are the unmodified LW HC worst enemy...I try my best not to climb them....Poplars are my favorite but sweet gum, and oaks are good....I have also found the smaller trees are easiest to climb...My worst climb with the unmodified LW HC - and it was not something I want to do again - was a large oak that had real scaly bark....My LW HC still remains unmodified though....

I found a little trick that has helped me while carrying my Hand Climber. I wrap
My webbing platform tether around my lwhc like many of you do. Once wrapped, I clip the tether carabiner to the platform and then onto my pack waist belt or saddle loops. Its simple but it rides on my side pretty well and it allows me to go hands free if I need to move something, grab my phone, take a break from the cold metal or whatever else. Maybe everyone else already does this and Im just a simple?

Someone that weld should make a pull up bar bracket with a caribiner attachment so we dont have to undo the tether all the time. This would be more efficient

I've never understood using a climber as the climbing method..... why not just use a climber then?

I haven't tried the platform as climbing method yet, so I'm just theorizing here, but wouldn't you save weight not having to use the top of the climber?

That's the main reason I want to try this. I already use a Gen 1 predator platform. If I can use a LWHC seat as both the climbing method and platform, I wouldn't have to carry sticks, so it should be less weight than what I'm carrying now. Most of the trees I climb even with sticks don't have lower branches and are pretty straight.

In terms of climber or saddle once at height, I would expect the usual saddle vs stand arguments. E.g. keeping the tree between you and the deer, shooting 360 degrees, etc.

I can grab either my 4lb LWHC or my 25lb Summit Titan SD. Hmmmm

In addition my LWHC fits in my backpack and is narrower than my shoulders. So slipping through thickets is much easier. Passing limbs with any climber is a pain but I hate carrying sticks. Typically the trees I hunt are perfect for a climber but the walk in is not.

Of course, but with the same tree limitations. If you can make it work for you, the lwhc as a climbing method+platform is one of the lighter nonpenetrating options. But you're limited in tree choice in a way that either matters to you, or doesn't. Without a scientific survey...it feels like a lot of the time I'm in a tree that's too big, too branchy, forked, etc.

Wondering if a Summit Open Shot climber top with attaching to the tree independent of the seat would work better? I know the “belt” attaching and detaching is not as easy but surely it stays on the tree better.

I live in the south with a lot of Short leaf pine. Perfectly straight and no branches before 25ft.

I live in New England and same here. Our trees are fighting for sun light so most of the time the branches are up high.
