How DIYist are you trying to do? Is the goal something personal style that suit you or budget? Also what level of skills do you have in regards to metal works? I'm asking because there are options and people will direct you to good sources depending on what route you want to take. If budget build is the goal, you can do a Lone Wolf/XOP seat platform in the $50-60 range. OR I would promote my build which is around $100, a DIY LWCG Ambush.

SloMo has some great built if you want to check his YouTube.

Seat from Hawk Hang-on make good budget platforms too, just a little heavy.

But honestly for a new comer, I say get a Trophyline Mission or one of the platform from the classified, they have great resale value.

I do maintenance and have worked in a fab shop for years but as far as budget I just can not bring myself to pay upwards of 300$ for a platform when I know I can build something I just have problems being creative with an idea

Sound awesome, the possibility is endless for you then. Look at the Seeker platform design, or the Trophyline EDP, they incorporate a lot of what people have wanted in platforms.

20210706_181358.jpgStarted out as a WE Perch inspired clone, then chopped it up and added a OOAL Scout Solo inspired piece for a strap. Used the scrap as a tab for an aider to hang from. Going to use it as a preset in a pine that's easy to climb, for late season.

Since I used a lot of the DIY posts on this site to brainstorm my take on the perch platform I thought someone might get some value out of seeing how mine turned out. One piece design since I don’t use the wild edge steps (I use SRT) this version is made of steel (easier to work with for a first attempt) and weighs in at 4 pounds. I intend to duplicate this out of aluminum to cut down on weight.

After I can't weld, I made my platform out of wood (my first one) that I had lying around. I cut the angles out of an old step of a wooden staircase (~ 5 cm glued wood), the platform is an old shelf of a shoe cabinet, about 1" thick (approx. 30x30 cm). Two M10 screws (slightly smaller ones would also be sufficient) with self-locking nuts and washers. The screws are not fully tightened so that the legs can move and adapt to the tree diameter. The small pins in the angles are for a better hold on the tree. For this I screwed small screws into the wood and then cut off the heads. A 1" ratchet strap is pulled through the elongated holes in the legs and then tightened to the tree. Bit bulky to carry, but it works.
