Louisiana Saddle Hunter's Thread

That’s no joke. I was praying for a little shower because I was dropping pools of sweat under the tree I was hanging in. Rain came and it was no “little shower”. Was feeling like I jumped in pool with all my hunting gear and no towel to dry off when I got a shot that saved me from another hour of rain.
Once I loaded him to the bike had to cross two culverts that were already under water. Crazy hunt but ended well.
Congratulations!

First sit this year in the Sit Drag. Public land in North Louisiana.

Good hunting with my son Monday and Tuesday. We're enjoying the Aero Hunter Kites. The Mystery River Pop Up 28s are paying for themselves as we are cutting up the deer and packing them out like Warren Womack instructed us.PAH deer 2.JPGPAH pig 1.JPG
My son killed a pig on Monday and doe #2 Tuesday on public land.

Congratulations on the successful hunts. What WMA are you hunting? How do you like the Kite? Have you hunted another saddle to compare? I ask because I’m anxiously awaiting my Kite.

We are hunting several WMAs, Clear Creek was first that resulted in a doe kill. Also hunting Maurepas where I hope to be hanging next to a Water Oak feed tree tomorrow. Will probably be on Pearl River this weekend or next week. We are looking for hot feed trees as Warren instructed us and this is working. Water Oaks are dropping good, but where available the Overcup Oaks are preferred right now from what I'm seeing.
The Kite is excellent. Have only compared it to the Kestrel which is just a little heavier, but about the same. I've only hung in my Kite for five hunts over the last two weeks. The longest so far was five hours. The last four hour hang was the best. My body is now in "saddle shape" as I believe Mr. Womack puts it.
I tried a Sit Drag last year, but didn't like it at all.

Thanks for the reply on the Kite. I’m in Prairieville but hunt north Louisiana, mostly Madison parish. My Kite is scheduled to ship by October 19. Hopefully I can get adjusted to the saddle quickly. Depending on what’s going on at my lease I would like to hunt the Tensas NWR with some of the other saddlehunter members. If you and your son decide to try out the Tensas let us know. Denots is trying to put together a saddle hunt group to make a hunt on the NWR. I’m sure there is a thread about that trip somewhere on the site.

I think you'll be pleased with the Kite. I was doing some fidgeting around the first couple of hunts just trying to find the best position, but after that there were no worries. I did make my own back band and that was a real aid after a couple of hours.
We also own and lease property near Haynesville, LA and hunt Kisatchie Caney District.

Headed to Indian creek or Kisatchie tomorrow at some point. Gotta be in a tree Friday

Okay guys I'm looking at booking a lodge at poverty point for a tensas hunt January 3rd through the 7th. The cost for six guys in the lodge would be $150 per person. So far I'm a definite and so is One Other Member. I have one maybe from an out of state hunter who won't know till the last minute. If he comes I'll crash on the couch. Sorry y'all I'm not real great at playing these kind of things so I'm looking for 4 people I would like to join in. That would give each man his own bed to sleep in and less my buddy from out-of-state comes in and like I said I'll take the couch in that instance. That would also lower the cost of every man by a few dollars. So are there four of y'all that are interested in going?
