Louisiana Saddle Hunter's Thread

This is going to be my first year in the saddle (Mantis on the way) and I'm having my third child any day now. Put those things together, I don't have high hopes for success. My goal for this season is to learn my equipment, hunt smart when I have the opportunity, and put a little meat in the freezer.

I mostly hunt public (Lake Ramsey WMA) but have permission on a real small piece in St. Gabriel and hunt my dad's 40 in Alabama a few times. I hope to put some time in at Tunica and Sherburne. I'll be honest, both of those areas are intimidating to me. I grew up hunting the rolling piney hills of Alabama, so steep cliffs and swamps are totally new to me.

Anyway, you gents want to get together for a camping, hunting, or scouting trip like @denots mentioned, I'm game.

We must be pretty close I live outside of Bogalusa mantis on the way as well had no clue there was any saddle hunters around me

I’m telling you there’s still a chance. Two years in a row we didn’t get an email in the first draw. All of a sudden around November I believe we get an email saying we were picked. They usually do a second drawing. May not happen but there’s still a chance.
 
I'll be there. I will be staying in mound at a friend's camp. Just can't hunt those two days. Hopefully my buddy will let me hunt as a guest at his place and bust a doe or two.

You can still get in via the second draw, and if not try big lake it’s a wma that borders the nwr
 
this rain is making me think twice...work won't allow. I may sneak out another afternoon

I wish. I’ve usually made a few hunts by now but I’ve been tied up on weekends and weather has been so terrible I haven’t been willing to burn any vacation days. Looks like I have to wait till Friday.
