Lures and scents

Im actually a small batch scent maker, I was planning to share with you all this coming summer into fall. We do not carry massive inventory, we make it every year and in 2019 we are completely eliminating all urine in the scent. It will be pure tinctured glads blended to the proper ratio and with the absence of urine should be CWD area legal as it will be sterile as well.

You can find us at www.menacescents.com and also on facebook/instagram

We do not make massive quantities, when its gone for the year, its gone for the year. Our scents are sold with the sole intention of making mock scrapes. Theres a free document on our website under our scents page. Typically we will build kits the first week of September but this year we may offer a few more options in size and how we do things. Changing our process a tad means after this year we should be able to bottle any time we have tinctured glands.

It takes a year to make our scents!

I know this is an older thread, but just my 2 cents on scents. The first time I went hunting in Ohio, I used Tinks #69 in one of their wick bottles. I hung it up in a bush about 20 yards away from the tree I was in. I came from Oregon and never used scents out there, being it was Blacktail country and I don't think the same tactics apply so much as whitetails. I was in my stand for about 30-40 minutes and I heard a snap of a twig behind me. I made the mistake of turning my head around a little too quickly, and a monster buck 8 to 10 pointer was standing there about 20 yards from the stand. He looked me straight in the eyes and bolted immediately and disappeared into the the woods. I believe firmly that scents works, also I don't think you need to buy the fancy expensive so called "fresh" scents, to be more effective. Tinks' worked fine for me and it's not expensive and available at Walmart :) P.S This was in the 3rd week of October pre rut.

I sometimes throw an HS wafer of doe urine scent on my molle when I hunt a new area or close to bedding, or hang it on my decoy. I also throw it in my saddle bag and laundry basket every couple of days until I hunt again. I don’t think it helps, but I’m not convinced it hurts either.
I pee downwind from the saddle on every hunt and on every active scrape I can muster a few drops for. I had a deer come in about 10 minutes after peeing off my tree this weekend. Not saying it was my buck juice what got her rolling in, but it probably helped dilute the ground scent I left when the wind got swirly. She had no clue I was there, and I don’t do anything scent-eliminating other than laundry detergent.

I use them on cattle farms I hunt to try and entice the bucks to come in. Sometimes they work sometimes not.

Scents don't work all the time if they did it would be to easy. Deer are a lot like people they have different personalities and moods.

Its easy and relatively cheap to make your own scents if you're interested. Here's how I make my own buck and doe estrous scents.
When I harvest a deer, whether it is a buck or doe, I check and see if the tarsal glands are active (if that's the right way to put it). I take the glands and cut them off right under the skin while I wear rubber gloves so I don't put my scent on the glands. You can freeze the glands to use later prior to next season or make them right then, personal preference. Put the glands in a mason jar and fill the mason jar with grain alcohol or high octane vodka until the glands are cover (don't over fill). I use everclear as my alcohol. Then put the mason jar in a cool dark place for 1-2 months. Once they have sat for awhile, strain them through a coffee filter into small, brown glass bottles (protects the scent mixture from the sunlight which can dilute it). When you pour or drip them onto mock scrapes or where ever the alcohol will evaporate and you will be left with pure scent. I try and collect a good set of buck glands and doe glands (only if the doe is in estrous) and make a buck and doe batch. Next year I plan on making mock scrapes and adding Smokeys pre-orbital scent on licking branches. You can usually get, from 1 set of tarsal glands, enough scent for at least 2 seasons depending on how much you use.

Here is another article that goes into a little more detail on the process.

Tt’s buck wild. Know these guys personally out of central LA. They run a deer farm. Have had some decent success With it not really big on lures though. Heard some crazy stories from friends

I've had success with a few different brands. The last few years I've been using Rubline scent company and been having good success with it 100% pure urine no additives. Seen a lot of guys killing deer with their stuff.
