LW platform

Any of you guys actually load test the seat set up?

I stood on mine, might have bounced a bit, dont recall. My seat bent, pictures in the thread davet1963 platform in the diy area. I weigh lbs. I used a solid piece of aluminum, where as these guys are using tubing. Its possible that mine was so rigid that all the weight loaded the seat and bent it, where as theirs bent the tube and the tube sprung back. Load is load, but when I bounced the rigid post didnt absorb any of the load. Thats my theory, could simply be I got a bad chinese casting.

I've tested it with 220lbs about 10 times & for various durations in time length from 2hrs to 6hrs. I also put a great deal of stress on the platform while climbing. So far no bending or broke parts.

Hmmm, maybe I should buy another seat and give it a try. To be honest Im not sure mine was straight to begin with, could have came from LW like that. I just noticed it when I was trying to move the hole to get to to pack up flat. "IF" I knew it wouldn't eventually break and cut my shins open as I fell through it, I would just use it, but that thought scares me.

Why not bend it back and reevaluate

I think that would weaken it. Like bending a wire back and forth till it breaks. The metal is set now, bending it back will add stress I believe.

I wouldn't get caught up in the bending fatigue. Aluminum is a fickle metal to begin with.

Sounds like you are afraid to use the platform as it is currently. Why not learn something?

I don't want it to break and hurt myself in the process. Bending it back would be a challenge, although I do have a press. Id rather leave it bent and bolt it back on my tree trend, then mess with trying to bend it back. Cast aluminum is not real dense, likely was a bad batch. If I pursue this further i will order a new seat for an elite. If you want to help me learn send me your seat and ill stand on it.
