Making the switch - handheld release help

LOL actually that's how mine came. Yeah the thumb button screws onto the shaft and is secured by means of a tiny set screw; thus you can change the angle of the thumb button. So looking at the third pic @Red Beard posted you could rotate the thumb button on the shaft/post so it's sitting at more of an angle. I might back mine out a bit more as I have pretty wide hands. No, it doesn't come with any other shafts/posts but if you were careful you might be able to machine so more threads onto the included shaft and then cut some off to make it shorter.
Here's a couple more pics showing how it fits in my hand. I have the button pegged all the way to the rear as I like it buried in the web of my hand.

I agree with having it buried deep but I tend to like mine more inwards as well. Trying releases is a pain in the ass. I now have a basically brand new Carter that I'm not a huge fan of and they won't return it. The somewhat local bow shop isn't responding to my request for what they have in stock to try. Carter isn't responding to my emails about what I like and not like on the two Carters I've tried as to which of their releases makes the most sense. For the price, I'm thinking maybe I'll try this release next.

Yeah it sure is. Especially when you're a thumb release kinda guy. Cabelas sometimes has releases you can try but they're usually wrist type. I'm switching from a Tru ball to this hot shot. One thing I really like is the ginormous thumb button. Yeah you can get aftermarket thumb buttons but this is new to me and I like it. Also, this release is physically thicker than my old Tru ball which I also like. That sux they won't take back your Carter, guess you'll have to flip it on AT or eBay. I usually get my releases from Amazon as they'll usually allow returns.

I'd try calling Carter. I've heard that Jerry Carter himself answers calls time to time. Have heard nothing bad about their customer service.

I used to have a high end hand held release, but got rid of it after several dangerous situations occurred. Went back to the wrist strap and will likely stick with it forever.

Can't leave it like that. Story please

Haha, fair enough. On two separate occasions I was shooting and was possibly getting fatigued. While at full draw, I accidentally let off too much and flinched when the bow came off the back wall. Release slipped out of my hand, went flying, and my arrow went into the wall. My fault, but an accident nonetheless.
The other issue I had wasn't necessarily a thumb release issue in general, but it was a problem with mine in particular. I drew back on a deer and released the arrow. Shot over the top of her at 20 yards. Something seemed off when I replayed the shot through my head. Went back to the cabin and set up a target. Went to release an arrow and the release went "click" and didn't fire the arrow and I was still at full draw. Eventually the arrow fired and I wasn't aiming at the time...I was kinda freaked out and looking at the release at the time. The arrow went sailing into the woods and stuck into a pine tree. That was enough for me. The company was really helpful and gave me the wrist strap release I wanted in exchange.

Yeah that would suck. What brand release? I've heard of a few instances like this with Stan but I've yet to hear about a Carter (not saying it hasn't happened, I just haven't heard)

It was a Carter.

Best entry level thumb release for the money might be the Hot Shot Vapor. It'll get you into the game without having to spend enough to cover a new bow...

It looks good. Can you leave it hanging on a D loop?

I’ve got a Stan shoot off 3 finger I’ve only used about 2 years. Love that release. I am looking to sell though and go back to a wrist rocket.
