Maryland public land sika deer

Good info, I haven't researched it a ton but from just now skimming over the regs the licenses look super cheap.
With the same license you can shoot 3 sika and around 15 whitetail does and 2 bucks. There are whitetail there also, so you would have a chance at them also.

Alrighty folks, this will be my 2nd season hunting maryland, I've got a good enough grip on public land white tails in maryland, anyone want to imbue me with sika deer knowledge, I have a sika seducer call on the way, working on taking 3 days off mid october to head over to Dorchester county, I have an inflatable paddle board and my saddle that I think will lend itself well to these swamp creatures. Everything I've read says they like to keep their feet wet.

I would start practicing with the sika seducer the moment you get it and plan on using it lightly. I had one and it sounded like the wrong type of bugle once I got into the woods. That part is on me. But the call is really loud. The cd that comes with it is awesome though. I think with more practice bugling with the seducer would be good at least. Last year we ran into a guy who told me about the sika reel. I picked one up and have been practicing with it in my car on the way to work all summer. It's stupid simple though and much better for mews IMHO.

I'll be down there with a few friends from here the weekend before. Can't stick around another weekend cause it's my daughters birthday. Sika hunting is a blast :)

I can attest to the sika seducer working. I went donw a few years ago and a buddy I was with called in 3 stags from the pines across the swamp, we killed 2 of them. I took a small Hind the morning but no call was used for it. the sika do use the pines for travel but they also stay in the swamp its very hard to know where they'll come from. we had been in the trees for about 45 mins when out of nowhere a hind stood up and wandered away. we had absolutely no idea she was there. also they have no sense of smell in the swamp we used 100% deet and 4 thermacells and my buddy hunts 12ft off the ground. he laughed at me when I got to hunting height and said sika don't look up. We were on blackwater refuge I only hunted one day but we saw 14 sika and I pretty sure it was even numbers for male to female. if you do plan to paddleboard please let people know where you are headed and when you intend to be back. even the guy I was with got use turned around for a second. you can lose all sense of direction out in that marsh and have no way to track yourself back if you don't have a good gps or cell phone service. if you hunt blackwater the tags do not count against state tags so you could actually double up if you find yourself so fortunate. be prepared for a great time and a huge desire to keep going back for more once you get your feet wet they'll never feel the same. I look fwd to the day I can return for more and it just may be this fall. Be wary of locals they hate out of town sika chasers so I would not listen to any advice they give. there is a group on facebook Delmarva sika something.. I'm sure you can find it but join and use the search function don't ask too many questions they'll whip and stone you through the screen its insane. but there is a good bit of info to be found there. find the edge where the woodline and the dead trees meet then find a live tree in the middle of the dead ones and climb it.. I was in one when my hind came in, she snuck in behind me between the swamp and the woods at20yds and I just happened to turn around and see her, never heard anything and she was already on me. they are definitely SWAMP GHOST so be prepared and stay vigilant. good luck.

I was lucky enough to get 2 sikas last year my second year hunting them none the first year what I found out was while they don't mind getting their feet wet they bed down on dry land if you can find a out of the way patch of high ground surrounded by water it will be a gold mine
