well shes home, not a new machine by any means lol, but i have given her a good service, sorted the tension issues it had and now shes purring like a kitten with good stitches to boot, not bad for a free bee, I got my pattern cut out and went to lay the stitches down for real then the old crusty leather belt broke so now i need to wait till the new one arrives, Gutted.

Nice find. You may be able to find a belt that might work in the tractor parts section at Lowes.

I ordered a leather replacement belt for mine a couple years ago and it works great. I also bought some thread injector oil at WalMart of all places and got all of the parts that needed to be slippery, slippery.
Before my belt arrived I cut a length of accessory cord and stretched the living snot out of it, burned both ends to seal them and did a quick hand stitch to join them together with some bowstring material. It worked about as well as my leather belt.

You have other options while you wait for your belt - get to it, inject some thread man!

there is a website where you can type in the serial number on old Singers to determine what model number yuor machine is.
With that information you can run a quick search to print an instruction/user manual. This was a HUGE help for me since I didn't even know how to "fill the magazine" on my injector...

Mine is a Model No. 15, built in 1935. I am starting to consider to look for one with a reverse on it as this will make life MUCH simpler.

You could take that old leather belt to an auto parts store and matched to a fan belt.

Thanks for the help I found the belt it should be here today and i am eager to get injecting, I have my pattern of the kestrel all sat on the desk waiting, it's quite addictive this lark, I will post my progress as I go in this thread, regards wayne

yipppppeeeee the leather belts arived can't wait to get home and start, regards wayne

Good luck with your machine.
I guess I didn't take a good look at your machine, mine is an old treadle so the belt is loooonnngg.

so rushed home, I had the patterns placed and taped ready fitted the belt and were off not a bad start for my first one on a new to me machine, regards wayne68578245_466599930865912_3827043528362426368_n.jpg68703882_371996633480374_3796690388891205632_n.jpg68375412_449109059011002_486121591315365888_n.jpg68814345_396412031228670_1260528353975205888_n.jpg

wayne r is a fraud, plain and simple. With progress like this there is no way he is new to thread injecting.

Just kidding, great job. You'll find all manner of things that need some stitches now that your machine is up and running. Looking forward to watching this saddle progress.

lol, I did make a ripstop underquilt maybe 8 years ago but the machine wasn't great but I managed to do it and it looked good. my sit drag stitching was nothing like this one but after some practice with this machine it's going well. slow and steady wins the race with this, I think I have more control going slow.I did mark out my stitch line before hand on the curve which helped keep the 1/2" mark.
I spent more time thinking about how to do it than actually injecting the thread this was also the case for making my bow I agonized for hours about actually cutting the shape of the handle and roughing it up but when i started it was straight forward. I really am looking forward to doing some more, I am awaiting a little tool to feed my grosgrain as i did my sitdrag just by trying to fold it over and it wasn't great I want this to look good and also awaiting buckles and clips, regards wayne.

still waiting on my grosgrain edging tool so only progress to get me injecting is to do the bridge loops, clipped the webbing around the harness and marked it all up so i could do the stitching abit backwards but it gets something done, regards wayne

so I managed some more today and also got the RCH harness included, just the linemans and molly loops to fit and also the leg straps to finish, pretty pleased with how things are turning out
