Looking to pull the trigger on some mini sticks, either 17'' or 20''. I like to be at least 20' in a tree and already use aiders. Are you guys getting that 20' mark with 3 mini sticks and aiders or should i suck it up and do 4?

I used 4 trophyline mini sticks with cable aiders last year and it was a struggle to get to 20’. Always started with one screw in step to help. So I would say 4

Are you comfortable with multi-steps aiders? That would be the only way to get to 20+ even with 4 minis. Here is a good video of expected height.

BUT with 3 steps aiders on each sticks (permanent or movable), you can get to 20+ with 3 sticks.

Yeah i already use multi step aiders and i rappel down so not worried about it. was thinking a 3 step aider for bottom stick, 2 step on second and maybe a single on the last.

I'm getting 21 to 22 feet to my platform with three Hawk mini and a knaider and swaider. Not sure how comfortable you are using a knaider swaider? I repel down though.

3 sticks with cable aiders on each and a backwoods mobile gear versa aider I’m around 18’ to top of step. With some effort to platform I could probably get 20’. I can try it this weekend and see what it maxed at.

If you stretch as hard as you can and use the knee to the platform trick you can get right about 17-18 feet with 3 sticks. To my knowledge there has never been a deer killed cause a guy was 20 feet up that would have got away because he was 15 feet up

How many feet additionally does the versa aider give you?
Well I guess I’m not sure how to answer in feet. If you think about it, it makes every step have two step aider with addition to the cable aider I run.

If I had to answer in feet I’d say I can get 4 or 5 feet extra out of it. If you think my max step is like 22” and say it’s 18”. So 54” divided by 12 is 4.5’.

I feel for the weight of it, it’s worth it to carry. I don’t always need it. Also it’s way more stable than a say amsteel two step aider or multistep aider

Thanks. I’ve been thinking about, depending on the situation, using 2-3 sticks and a 4-5 step aider. I’ve come to a similar calculation of gaining 4-6’ with an aider depending on the step quantity. Super lightweight compared to a stick. But I was curious about it because I have yet to prove the calculations in real life.

Doing the math with a consistent 17" between each step:

3 sticks=8.5'
3 sticks, double aider on first, single aider on other two=14.2'

On the bottom stick with a double aider, it's about 8' as the first step from ground can be higher so add an additional 2' to the second number. This is with zero effort or stretching out between sticks. In short, 16' is easily doable with 1 double and 2 single step aiders.

Add an additional 2' for the platform and you're up to 18' without trying.

I have three mini sticks... The bottom one has a three step aider, the middle a two step aider and the top one a one step aider.. At 15" per step this gets exactly 15 ft, so 20 ft with mini sticks is tough.... I assume you mean your feet at 20ft..... Why do you try and get over 20ft? I know a lot of people like to hunt really high, but it gives you a worse shot angle than at 12-15ft.....

I hunt alot of pine areas where cover can be hard to get so i just try to be at least 20' up....generally my body is at 20' so platform is probably more around that 17-18' range

Try a 3-step aider from Backwoods Mobile Gear or Custom Amsteel Products on your bottom stick and then use a Versa or cable aider on remaining sticks.

I have 4 Novix/TL mini doubles with 18" cable aiders. My pull up rope has a wire biner on one end and a nite ize tie on the other to tie into my saddle. I just measured it and it's 20'4" from the end of the biner to where the rope ties to the nite ize. I can climb high enough that my bow is standing upright but not quite off the ground when I'm standing on my platform.

And I'm short. 5'8"/5'9".

I am 6'3". get to about 17' using 3 lwcg 20' sticks with 17" aiders. Because of my height I can get 24-26" between the ground and the first aider and also from the top of each stick to the next aider and with an additional 1-2' from my top stick to platform. It's a reach to get to 18' but I have done it. I usually take it easy and hunt around 15-16' and using the tree and cover it's plenty.
