I actually posted a link to this post awhile back. How hard was it with the new knot? I’ll prob wait till after season to do mine. May do em this weekend though bc I seen some ideal trees to get in and haven’t filled a tag yet. Here's a rope mod I did awhile back:
Muddy Pro Stick Rope replacement
I am satisfied with the muddy pro stick but wanted a longer rope as some of the trees where I hunt are Paul Bunyan sized in girth. Research revealed the rope to be either 8 or 9mm. I called Muddy, they weren't sure either but said 8 or 9 would work. I asked about the glue used to secure the...saddlehunter.com
20 below. Where are you hunting Alaska? The reason that I went with the muddy pro sticks is that I was having trouble with my wild edge steps during the cold weather. I could not adjust them easily with gloves on. I really like the rope connections. It makes it very easy to do with cold fingers. It got to 20 below that morning. Brrrrr.

Wisconsin. Muddy pro sticks look like the ticket for colder weather. I may do the longer rope mod in the spring after testing. I think I will have to keep the steps open so that they don't freeze.20 below. Where are you hunting Alaska?

I think they are pretty quick when I do it right. Just make sure you do a half hitch or two after you seat the rope in the cam.Wisconsin. Muddy pro sticks look like the ticket for colder weather. That’s what I was wondering about? Sounds like that’s going to be a beyotch. I’ll prob wait to the end of the season. Not looking forward to that but don’t want to be limited to small trees.Ah just saw your previous post, oops. What do you mean how hard was it? How hard was it to tie the knot? Tying the knot was easy, getting it small enough to fit in the hole is the hard part. I ended up knotting the line, then sticking a fender washer above the knot, running the line through the tow hitch of my truck and just yanking the $#@& out of it while my buddy held the other end with vice grips. Got it about as small as I could, then two part epoxied the heck out of it. That thing is never coming undo.
If you keep steps open have you looked at the option to replace them? With the fixed steps? I’ve read where the steps that open are quite heavy with the gears and stuff in them.Wisconsin. As of now I plan on trying to one stick climb. But if I feel that the stick is too heavy I will definitely swap to a double step fixed. If you keep steps open have you looked at the option to replace them? With the fixed steps? I’d be interested in kno this that works out for you. Especially if you go to fixed stepsAs of now I plan on trying to one stick climb. But if I feel that the stick is too heavy I will definitely swap to a double step fixed.

I originally started out this way with a 5 step aider attached. I quit because I couldn't control the aider kickout and felt I was very noisy pulling the stick up the tree. I'm quieter with 3 sticks and a movable aider. YMMV. I say give it a shotI’d be interested in kno this that works out for you. Especially if you go to fixed steps
Its 8mm static, it's super strong I think around 5500lb breaking strength. The outer is just to hard for the cam to bite it good.Is that oplux rope static? What was the diameter? Stay safe out there. That sounds scary.
So are you still going to do the rope mod and just trust the half hitches? Its 8mm static, it's super strong I think around 5500lb breaking strength. The outer is just to hard for the cam to bite it good.
I didn’t know the cams could be adjusted??!I just posted my DoubleStep and Rope mod on a different thread. Getting the Oplux through the hole in the post was almost impossible!!! By the last stick I stumbled on what made threading the Oplux a breeze! On the tag end cut a triangle into the rope and lightly melt the core and it will bond the sheath. The triangle shape allows for a good Portion of the rope to pass and it allows for a good purchase on the material with a set of pliers in order to pull the rest of the rope through the hole with out it mushrooming or unraveling. I found the cams worked just as well on the Oplux. If the cams are tightened to tight it fails to engage. Ensure the cams spring back on the rope freely.
